| I had some crazy idea they were going to shock us all by announcing someone like Wayne Bennett.
It's an odd one for sure. But their situation reminds me of us in the late 1990s, when the years of success had finally ended and Mo and DW didn't seem to know how to replicate them because they hadn't twigged that the very good, very settled team they'd had previously had also been coaching itself for several years and so its retirement was a double loss. Even chucking money at a club doesn't recreate that level of on-field and off-field superiority overnight.
As the OP says, it could be a while before Leeds are challenging for silverware again.

| He just about saved them from relegation they must want another season of “steady” rugby next time out I can’t see them as serious contenders for silverware though

| Can see the temptation after steadying the ship, but I'd put anything on them living to regret this.

| This would have been like us sacking Lam mid season and signing John Kear again.

| It's a strange one I agree, but I know quite a few people who have been influenced by Agar and every one them has been very positive about him and his knowledge of the game.

| I’m surprised they haven’t held fire and gone in for the relegated coach. Ward, Smith or Chester would all make more sense for Leeds than Agar surely.
Even with Agar in charge though, you can’t write off Leeds challenging for silverware next year. They can’t do any worse than this year and the competition is as weak as it’s ever been.

| It's a strange one this. He's never had much success in his stints at other clubs and, even though they may be playing a little better, currently has Leeds 2 points above relegation... The exact same position they were in before he took over. Lacks ambition as an appointment for mine.

| Without any money? Not sure it's wise for you to be having a pop at Leeds' finances currently.....or any other club's finances to be honest.

| Surely Ian Watson would have been a better appointment If ever a coach got his squad to over achieve Watson has.
Leeds have an average squad and they need a coach to get the best and more out of them.
After what happened at Hull when he was there Agar's appointment is bewildering.

| Might just be me but I don’t understand the pessimism. Brian McDermott wasn’t a popular choice to take over at Leeds but look at what he achieved.
Sometimes the club suits the coach, irrespective of past successes, or in this case, failures. He has steadied the ship and improved them from where they were. Perhaps he can take them to the next level or back where they were.
Considering our recent coaching fiasco I wouldn’t go throwing stones in glass houses.

| I make it won 7 lost 7 since he took over a struggling side, only really been hammered once in that time, which was shortly after he took over. It's not the standards they're accustomed to, but I'd say it's fair enough to give him a crack after a full pre season.
