| I saw this but it makes me wonder, which Scotland, Wales or Ireland players would oust any of the England players to form GB? Can't think of any to be honest!

Who knows who will have come through by then. Could see Regan Grace making the squad though based on early potential.

Hopefully he does because he's lightning quick, I just hope he doesn't turn into another Kevin Penny

| It'll be good to have tours instead of 4 nations but I can't see many from outside of England making the GB squad. That said it's a hell of an incentive to get stuck in!!

| It doesn't matter if the team is full of 17 Englishmen. It isn't really about the team. It is about the brand and the marketing potential that a Lions team and tour brings. As much as I dislike the code we need to piggyback off the success, excitement and media attention a British Lions Union tour generates.
I would hope that whoever is the coach isn't the English national team coach.

Maybe as a big back rower a-la Morley, particularly if we get an injury or two. It worked well in 2013 when he moved to loose, he's just needed more at prop for Wigan

He was.
Pretty sure he scored for the Aussies against NZ in the last test though.

He was born in Australia, but his Dad is Welsh. Played for the Aussies in the 4 Nations though, so that ship has sailed.
Pretty sure we could come up with some Aussies that have Scottish, Irish or Welsh Grandparents to bolster the team. Wayne Bennett seemed happy enough with his journeymen NRL players in the Samoa test, picking them ahead of Liam Farrell, for example. We could just go the whole hog and pick a team and a coach exclusively from the NRL.
International Rugby really is a joke. I see Ben T'eo (born in NZ, played for Samoa at RL then Queensland, then selected in an Australia squad, but didn't play and also represents England at Union) has been selected for the Lions!!!
Do you think the £22,000 per game eased his transition to being a proud Englishman?

| Glad you mentioned him because interestingly there's virtually no outcry about Te'O from RU fans. Whereas in RL its instant frenzy time.

No outcry. I couldn't care less. Just used him as an example about how ridiculous international rugby has become.

Agreed. I don't know what the rules are currently but I'd have the criteria that you need to have lived 10 years in the country you want to play for. If that means Italy and USA get tonked then so be it, at least actual Italians and Americans can represent their country.

| Who cares about the Squad?
Im just looking forward to wearing one of these bad boys
NOTHING in RL beats GB v Aus for my money. I include SOO or any GF etc
Best news i have heard in ages. Miss the sheer build up and hype that surrounded the tours of days gone by.

And I'd add that once you've represented a country then that's it, you stick with them.
Of course we know why players are allowed to change because it makes the likes of Scotland and Ireland competitive, and Tyson Frizell would never have turned out for Wales in the last World Cup if it would have jeopardised his Aussie career.

Maybe a major nation/minor nation non-swapping rule. I wouldn't want the next Kieron Cunningham declining to represent Wales in his early years so that he can remain eligible for England. Not sure what impact it would have on some of the Island Nations/New Zealand also. edit - didn't realise Cunningham isn't really Welsh, bad example.
I wouldn't want them to inadvertently make a rule that discouraged players from ever representing their country, that's the opposite of what we should be aiming for. All about balancing the legitimacy of the team vs the fact players will want to play the highest standard of rugby available to them at any given time in their career.

True but I get the feeling the "re launch" of GB&I is to incorporate players from each home nation, and IMHO it bloody well should as well. Otherwise it makes a mockery of it, it may as well be an England tour if it's a squad full of Englishmen and no Welsh/Scottish either.
Going on to the coach, I'd do it like they do for the British and Irish Lions and have a panel selection a year or so before the tour after a thorough application process.
