| Very surprised to see you beat Cas tonight.
Wigan team was not vastly different to the one
that lost to Wakey and therefore my surprise.
Should SW have been more complimentary to Wakefield?
What sort of video might we expect this week?
What do you fans think is the reason for the vast improvement
In performance.
Was last Sunday just a blip and the virus video an excuse?

| Nope , none of our players had a virus last week. They were all 100% fit and well, and were trounced by the best team ever to play in Superleague. Congratulations

Surprised you need to ask. The evidence of tonight would seem to suggest that flu, or whatever it was, can have a very dramatic effect.
A couple of Wakey fans have been hovering around this board all week basically trying to force us to admit that last weekend's result was nothing to do with illness and, somehow, was all down to Wakey being a vastly, vastly better team than anyone knew.
Well good luck to them, especially now. Wakey might have more talent than people thought but tonight makes it pretty clear that there was a lot more to last week than that.

| My recollection is that that most of the Wakey fans who've posted here lately have been pretty level-headed. Whatever team we put out, they played well against us; it would be churlish to say otherwise, and I see they got a good result in the Cup tonight. Fair play to them, but we can forget about them now until we go to their place. Meanwhile we still look pretty good in the table.

Correct, last week was simply a blip, currently joint top of SL and looking pretty good again.

| I still dont know why they didnt call the wakey game off the side was clearly off for whatever reason and if it was a medical one then thats was good enough to me to call it suspect that if it had been Cats,Leeds,Wire or saints they'd have pushed to get to it called off (under the same circumstances no sky etc),as that couldhave really been embarrasing.

I just wonder how easy it is to call a game off at short notice. Also to then reschedule that game? I suspect it's probably not as straight forward as we would imagine.

Possibly not but i wonder if it was any other sport would Wigan be under investigation for fielding a clearly understrength team?

Why should Wigan be under investigation? The club said they had been in contact with the RFL in the week leading up to the game and gave them evidence in order to get dispensation on the cap to play 2 more kids. Wigan must have had medical evidence to prove this.
I don't know whether Wigan didn't want to call the game off or the RFL wouldn't let them. I would say whoever made that decision it wasn't fair asking the players who were ill to play.

| The only player who missed the game with the illness was John Bateman wasn't it?
The rest had already missed games or had got injured against Wire (Lockers). If Wigan were to be investigated for anything it would be for playing lads who didn't look well enough.

I hope next time I get flu, I get that type where in can run around for 80mims. I usually get the version where I can't get out of bed and call in sick for a week at least. The lucky buggers.

| I would advise the Wakefield fans hovering our boards to get as much in as you possibly can before we play you at our place in July. By then we will have Sam T, Williams, Lockers, Manfredi, Gelling, Crosby, Farrell and Bateman all back in the team to return the good hiding you gave us. And knowing the way Waney is and how annoyed he has come across regarding the way some fans have reacted to the result and stuff written in the media about Wigan in his recent media duties I wouldn't bet against him sending his players out to return the favour with a bigger score. So enjoy it while it lasts Wakey fans your time will come in July when your challenging for sweet F.A as usual. The lads were sick as dogs and we played half of our academy against men end of story.

My trolling my duties here are finished.
I'd like to say it's been emotional but I'd be lying.
I'll look forward to seeing you beat Wakefield by more than 62pts.
Thank you and good day xxxxx

No-one from Wigan said it was Flu?
Wigan and it's staff said it was a Virus
Now you can believe what you want, not particularly interested but the virus started Tues/Wed of the week leading up to the game (I knew about it and I knew that training had been cancelled Thurs/Fri pre the game)and 5/6 of the more Senior players that did play were affected by it along with numerous others who didn't play & staff.
The following week Sam Powell for example didn't train Wed/Thurs and crawled out of Sick bed and played Friday night.
John Bateman who had pulled out the games the previous week also put his hand up to play last Friday despite not being in A1 condition to play - And in fact was in a pretty poor state at Half time I believe in terms of Vomiting etc.

I get more frustrated with Wigan fans trying to stir things up for whatever reason if I'm honest.
Not sure what's hard to believe about a club with 9/10 1st team players injured already suddenly getting a Virus that affected another 10 or so plus staff.
I was there, I saw Sarginson and Tierney and how bad they looked pre game - I know Joel shouldn't have played due to a Knock but put his hand up etc.
Now whether losing 62-0 is/was acceptable is debatable and probably up to each individuals interpretation of the situation bearing in mind "We" don't know all the facts (Some know a little bit more than others however for whatever reason).
MY personal opinion is it's 90% understandable, When any team get on a roll it can be hard to stop but never mind when your down to the bare bones and then add illness to a number of the team in and it becomes conceivable to my mind this was always a possibility.
What was important to me was a number of things.
Seeing Josh (Again after announcing his departure it could easily have been a chance to throw the towel in) chase back, Knowing that a number of players put their hands up in adversity, The response the following week (And I do know how bad Bateman was at HT as someone who was in the dressing room told me).
The above makes me confident that this was a blip, it makes me confident that the team WANT to win, WANT to get out there and do their best and to a point there's not much more I can ask for than that of them.
On a different subject
I keep reading fans talking about being bored etc. with watching Wigan and the style of play.
Each to their own I guess but it seems to me that if you keep telling yourself/reading & believing these things over and over you'll start to believe them if you want to (Probably more so if your intent on proving yourself right).
Me personally I've enjoyed the start to the season.
There's been some old fashioned style grind out type performances (Catalans/Huddersfield/Hull & The best example Cas last week).
There's been the odd Pretty good performance (Leeds at home & Saints away)
The odd disappointment (Widnes & the 1st half versus Warrington)
The Big Blip (Wakey - But trying to take a positive out of it these are the days that IMO galvanise you as a club etc.)
I'm looking forward to Hudds tonight and I accept that any wins a good win - It may not be pretty for many reasons however I appreciate that grinding out the wins can often learn us more than 40/50 point wins and serve us better back end of season in the tight games (And no I'm not saying grinding out wins is a master plan done on purpose etc. - Just stating that we could very easily have been in a Leeds/Hudds/Saints situation but were not despite injury situation similar if not worse).
