| Why do people do this? I know it's a family game and all that but it hardly strikes the DW as being an intimidating place to go to.
Small matter I know, but it just seems to me that it plays into the other team's hand and makes them relax more and play their normal game.

| I was saying this earlier. It's pathetic. We almost make it as welcoming for them as we do for our own team. They must feel like they're at home. We should make the away players feel nervous and intimidated and put as much pressure as we can for them. Drives me mad.

| Always bugged me and even more so tonight after Wanes comments in the week. I'm not saying boo them on but just stay silent ffs. It must give the opposition such a warm feeling.

| Why not? It's sportsmanship. The Bradford fans gave Prescott a big round of applause. If it was completely partisan thinks like that may vanish as well.
I have my own little superstition in that I will clap 'em on in the 1st half but not the 2nd. God knows why but I just do. Anyone else do the same?

Probably makes no difference at all to opposition players.
The DW stadium has always been a nice place for visiting teams because it is not a purpose built rugby league ground, has very nice changing rooms and a decent playing surface too.

I've seen this mentioned a number of times and I'm still waiting for someone to tell me what a "purpose built rugby league ground" actually is?
Minging changing rooms and potholes all over the pitch?

The Halliwell Jones is a good example.

| I clap the away team onto the pitch as a mark of respect for their rugby ability and they are about to put their bodys on the line for my entertainment.

So by your judgement, I'm a sub human scum bag mouth breather because I choose NOT to clap them onto the pitch??
Just because I don't clap them on, doesn't mean I have no respect for the opposition. I want us to win. I want the opposition to lose. They're coming to try and beat us. I'm not going to clap them on to the pitch. I'll clap them afterwards for the effort they've put in, and definitely if a player gets injured. Rugby is supposed to be a tough game. There's no need to cheer and clap the opposition on to the pitch almost as enthusiastically as our own team. Next we'll be going around giving cuddles and blowing kisses to make them feel loved! Might as well get flags for every opposing side and stick it up on the gantry welcoming them to Wigan, and telling them that we hope they have a lovely time. The DW is OUR home. Not theirs. Why should they be made to feel at home???
You don't hear anywhere near as much clapping when we play Leeds/Wire/Saints.

| Add to that... I don't think I've ever been to an away game where Wigan have been applauded onto the pitch. It's either been deadly silent or ringing with boos!!!

Ah, so you mean small capacity and cheap as chips construction.
In that case I'm glad the DW isn't a "purpose built rugby league stadium".

Yes...with more seats!
Standing up creates a much better atmosphere going back to my point.

So purpose built rugby league ground have to have standing terraces?
Are Warrington's changing rooms and playing surface not up to much as well?

In terms of creating atmosphere yes.
Unless you think sitting down creates a better atmosphere?

Some of the best atmosphere's I've experienced have been at all seater stadiums, including the DW. They even had nice changing rooms and playing surfaces.

Total opposite for me.
Much better atmosphere when the crowd has been able to stand and that made it more intimidating for the opposition.
I would also include the old grounds in that such as Knowsley Rd, Central Park etc.
