Wiggy has just said McDermott is aiming to be the first person to win the wcc as both a player and coach, did West not do this for us? Thought he played in 1987 from the bench and coached us in 94.

West was on the bench but IIRC he never made it onto the pitch and a big hoo-har was made on how Manly were beaten by a full set of Englishmen. |

Thank god for that, never have I hoped an Australian team would beat an English one, but another year of that joke of a team calling themselves 'world champions' would be too much.
Imagine the massacre it would have been had Melbourne had a few warm up games

Major issue from last night for me-
I'd pick Sinfield and Widdop as halfbacks for England in the world cup and last night proved we're scraping the barrel. Yet again Sinfield didn't turn up against the Aussies and they find it embarrassingly easy to deal with him and Widdop was probably the worst player on the field. He looked lightweight and clumsy and poor in defence so pretty much perfect for an English halfback.
Back to the drawing board maybe! Tomkins in at halfback for me now although we'll probably have to stick with Sinfield alongside him. Hardaker in at fullback who I like anyway.
