I know it's been done to death, but I've just been watching the 2010 final and Gleeson was just immense! What a shame it is that his career took the path it did. It was a pleasure watching him in the Cherry & White.

When's his ban up? Do you think he'll ever play Super League again? Carmont currently still playing well at 34, Gleeson only 32... We all know he's class, would be nice to see him defeat his demons and collect a last paycheck before hanging up his boots.

I think I've seen rumours on here about him going to Salford, last chance saloon, or a dangerous game going anywhere near Mr Long?

I'm sure his ban is up in the next week or two.

Get him fit, Get him focused, get him signed up for a year and get him in the centre.

I'd not considered that to be honest, but it's a very good point. Has anyone seen him about? Does he look like a man who has been working hard, or like he's spent a year and a half propping up a bar?

Leave him well alone. He loved playing for Wigan and i'm convinced it meant more to him then playing for any of his other clubs but he still didn't love it enough to behave himself.

If he was 25/26 i'd consider it as he'd have time to grow up but he's too old now.

Hello all, this is my first post on this forum but I read it regularly. It's not the most important contribution but I had a fairly lengthy chat with Gleeson, at the cinema, a few months back. I was very surprised at the shape he was in (all things considered) but he did say that he'd been training very hard and was still involved in rugby. Lovely chap too FWIW.

It must be hard to be fair... Whether this will sit well with any of you or not, I understand addiction and the stupid need to party hard... often.

I had a drink and drug problem for years (still do to some extent, but within the law these days) I'm just a normal bloke and it was incredibly difficult to stay away and get clean. I don't think I would have managed it if I was a professional sportsman with all the wrong and incidently right people knowing who I am and blowing smoke up my proverbial.

Like I said, if he has managed to clean up his act, although too much of a risk to a club like ours, would be nice to see him go out with his head held high somewhere else maybe on a one year contract.

I have no doubts he is good enough if fit enough and TBH I'd be surprised if one of the lower teams in the league didn't make a move for him. From what I remember though, he became very disillusioned with the RFL after the way they handled his disciplinary that led to his last ban so he might be put off about coming back. There certainly wouldn't be a place for him at Wigan should he choose to.

If he can't get a team and we offered him a lifeline on the right money (for Wigan not him) I can see him coming for a year if he's desperate he may do well and he MUST have learned his lesson now.

Gleeson is his own worst enemy. Whichever club is he has been at, with the exception of Huddersfield, he has always left under a cloud.

In tonights Manchester Evening News it is reported that Gleeson has signed a 2 year deal with Salford as a replacement for Joel Moon who has joined Leeds.

His signing will not be announced officially until the proposed takeover of the club by Peel Holdings is completed.

Hes a superb player, easily in the top 5 british centres Ive seen in my life (only 23 btw) so he needs to be playing while he still can.

Thing is why isnt there as much as a kick off about it as there was Hock? Gleeson was actually a drugs CHEAT Hock was taking recreational drugs that wouldve been detrimental to his play.

The season before Martin signed for us he played against us at the HJ for Saints. He and Skully ripped us apart, Saints won something like 40 - 10 & Martin had a hand in 30 of the points. He was devastating, it was the best display by a Centre I had seen in my 30 years of watching RL.

When Andrew Johns left us after his short spell he was asked which player out of Super League he would like to take back to the NRL, he is quoted as saying Martin Gleason definitely Martin Gleason.

Gleeson has been the best British wingers centre I have seen in the superleague era. Every winger who has played outside him has scored tries.

And you can bet a pound to a penny he has read countless threads like this and realises he messed up in a big way. I saw him in TK MAXX before his ban on his own, His expression was just one of pure sadness. I saw him again in the Standish co-op after he had been banned and the expression was still the same.

Wonder what wiped the smile off that grand final winning face.
