Seems Hull F.C. have signed him has a replacement for Wade McKinnon who has left Hull.Any info on him?.

Good nippy pacey full back/winger. Will score tries for you. Has show odd signs of rawness in defence here but the kid is 19 after all. I think it's a cracking deal for both sides. Potentially a Josh Charnley mark II. This loan spell will probably tell us.

Hopefully we'll have a duck to water situation here and he'll take to it straight away like Charnley did at Hull KR.

Is it definitely just a loan deal then? I think this looks more likely that we will be moving Horne to full back next year (where he has looked really good with no kicking/organising responsibilities) and look to bring in a stand off, maybe Finch

Horne would be devastating with his pace from the back, possible replacement for Welllens if Saints want to take another of the FC stars

Russell has rough edges to smooth out and if he does that he can be truely top class.

Dont think the 2 stories are linked to be honest. All the signs have been that he wants young British players (like Pitts) and this Russell loan signing has kind of been forced upon us rather than by choice.

Never know though, by the sounds of it the club were aware of McKinnon going back for a while. Maybe just delayed the news until we got his replacement?

The Wigan fans seem to rate this lad, so he could be a good stand-in until PG sorts out something permanent for next season.

Might be permanent if he feels he will struggle to get into wigans team, because of Tompkins.

But the consensus is that they may push Tomkins back into the halves next year with Tommy going and potentially Finch, with Russell slotting in at FB

Be surprised to see Tompkins moved from fb, he has looked too good there, the space he gets there seems to suit his game.

Before we talk about Russell and next year, I have it from a good source that a few NRL clubs (for their toyota cup teams) are interested in him, and in fact he could have made the switch before the start of this season but chose to stay.

Not a chance. Russell has an awful lot of improving to do in many of the key areas for a full back, such as positional play, defence and dealing with kicks before he gets anywhere near being the starting full back at Wigan. Hopefully this loan move will be just the experience he needs to improve.

I think unless Wigan sign Slater or Barba then nobody in the world would be able to get close to being your starting full back?

That makes it sound like he isn't good enough to play 6 because he needs the space playing at full back gives. I think he would be even more devastating at 6 and would have a running game few teams could cope with. As to a realistic player of equal quality to replace Tommy, who is he?

Well he's made the Ull FC 19. So he's in with a shout of playing on Saturday. Looking forward to seeing what he can do.

Is there another specialist FB in the squad?

I think Russell could potentially be a big hit on humberside. Remember the last youngster we sent over there on loan? he turned out ok.

I hope he tears Leeds apart on saturday.
