| “Hull FC will endeavour to ensure no further young talent is poached from the club and this objective will be helped by not having such close liaisons with other competing Super League clubs."
Was Kath Hetherington abusing her position at Ull by giving away the clubs secrets to hubby Gary?

| Always felt sorry for the Hull FC fans when Hetherington was in charge and Agar the coach.
Hopefully Pearson can turn it around for them, it won't be a quick fix but a long term project me thinks!
We've had Hudgell, McManus and now Pearson suggesting a review of the RFL.
Some time ago Maurice complained about the size of the RFL back room staff comparing it to a civil service.
Perhaps something will be done?

He's absolutely bang on about the RFL, though. They seem to have been doing everything they can to drag an incredibly marketable product (with a HUGE television audience for Sky matches) backwards by the scruff of the neck, whilst pointing to the marginally increasing match attendances as some kind of proof that they are taking it forward.
Eamonn McManus's far more subtle dig was probably more appropriate as it offered ideas for a way forward, but I'm sure all of the decent chairman outside of Leeds agree with this general point - [urlhttp://www.sportinglife.com/rugbyleague/news/story_get.cgi?STORY_NAME=rleague/12/04/06/RUGBYL_Bradford_McManus.html[/url

| I think hes spot on. I think maybe it couldve been worded a little better to seem a little more professional but I do think he is spot on. If it involves leeds it will predicatably go in their favour. If it requires less work it will predictably go that way.
Eg wasnt it Hull that fielded an ineligible player? It was easier for them to not expel them from the cup. I imagine that maybe it would've been different if they'd knocked out a Super League team in those 2 rounds.
To me the RFL shouldve set an example and kicked them out but they didnt they took the easy route as it wouldnt have required those games to be replayed. This is what the RFL always do.

A "complete root and branch overhaul of the entire governing body and its hugely expensive and ineffectual infrastructure"? This is news?
It's been responsible for "shams" and "fiascos" for as long as I can remember.

| I think the "news" is that club chairmen have been so openly critical of the RFL in recent months. The people funding several SL clubs are obviously as unhappy as we fans have been with the govering body - whether this will lead to any real change or not remains to be seen.
There are a range of issues about the development of the sport in the long term that need to be addressed now - I thought Phil Caplan raised some good points in the last Superleague Backchat programme ([urlhttp://www.skysports.com/video/inline/0,26691,12602_7679022,00.html[/url) - despite being shouted down by the Sky lot and Chris Irvine simply because he had a realistic take on the financial realities of what an elite competition should be about.

I agree that it's interesting that the club chairmen have been critical, but for me the fact that they've finally realised there is a problem so long into the SL era is laughable and I have no confidence whatsoever in their ability to find solutions.
We have a game which is a fantastic product on the field - in Sam Tomkins we have a player who could, if marketed properly, transcend the sport and lift the appeal of the game nationally and we have many exciting young players coming through. With the players in the NRL we even have a chance to be consistently competitive at international for the first time since the early 90s.
Many clubs have great facilities now and crowds are bigger than they have been for decades.
The TV audience for the sport is large.
The amateur game continues to grow across the country.
There are actually a lot of positives, but the leadership of RL at RFL and club level is nothing short of a disgrace.
The franchising system is a fiasco that makes the SC look like a competently designed and administered process.
The Stobart sponsorship deal has made the sport a laughing stock.
The disciplinary procedures in RL are a joke.
The refereeing has reached a comic nadir, with refs that can't count and send the wrong man off. Despite the Aussies moving to address the fact that the game is too fast for one ref to police our authorities do nothing.
I could go on but it is too depressing...

| I know one of the parties involved in this and the way Hull acted was shocking, its fallen on the new regime to try to clean up the mess.
Without going into details the old regime knew full well they were on an outer and basically offered the player a great opportunity to leave for his current club.

I think this is pretty obvious, a bit of bedroom talk has cost us a potential good SL player.
A very bitter thing to do for a group of people who ran the club so poorly it has set us back a couple of years on and off the field.
You can understand why Pearson is so angry, but maybe he would have been better biting his lip as it won't help us with future RFL dealings, I did like it though, shows the passion he has for our club.

Cummins is clearly not as dim as I thought. He knows which targets to hit to keep himself in a job.
Pity that so many of his paymasters' jobs are suddenly looking less certain.

| 100% agree with the stobart deal, someone at Stobarts having a massive laugh at the RFL falling for 100 trailors been painted to be worth between £3m and £7.5m over 3 years. Stobart have got their name all over sky sports and all the stadiums in the country it would of cost the alot more than that to get Stobart into so many living rooms from sky alone. Crazy.

He's completely wrong about the Briscoe deal. Hull offered a new contract on worse terms than the last one, as a result Briscoe can become a Free Agent. Maybe it was pillow talk between the Hetheringtons (the thought of Kath Hetherington and pillow talk makes me feel ill), but if it can't be proved then there's nothing Pearson can do about it.

Garry Hetherington runs the RFL without a shadow of a doubt, although he had to wait a while to take over from his previous imcumbent

I particularly like this RFL quote
[iIt emerged yesterday that the Rugby Football League, which had initially blocked that deal until it was given a personal assurance by Wigan's chairman, Maurice Lindsay, that it would not lead to a salary cap breach, would not have allowed Fielden to move had it been aware of the way in which Lindsay would attempt to wriggle off the hook[/i
