Just driving home and had Radio Manc on, there was a five minute piece with Maurice discussing the impact GMR/Radio Manc had on Wigan RLFC during the 80's/90's.
It was pretty good with him talking about the days prior to Internet Forums, SKY Sports, Club Websites...etc that GMR was a much needed medium between the Wigan club and us the fans.

It also had some commentary of the 27-0 mauling of Stains in the Challenge Cup Final.

Not sure if the piece can be found online but it was aired around five minutes to six tonight!

I remember Wigan being discussed a lot on Radio Manc in those days. Not always positively.

One week, a bunch of Wigan fans wrote a very eloquent letter to GMR, in which they decried a suggestion that had been repeated on the station several times during the previous weeks that Wigan were successful because they cheated a lot and somehow kept getting away with it.

To do GMR credit, they read the letter out. But they didn't seem too embarrassed about it. And of course, they continued, and still do, to give raving lunatics air-time on the phone-in.

Maybe it's time for all the Wigan fans to stop listening to the station. 1) No need to get worked up about a load of nonsense and 2) It's not our listening figures they need to worry about.

It's always surprised me how much coverage RL gets on Radio Manc, especially when you consider that they [inever[/i have a Sale Sharks game on, despite the fact that their crowds are bigger than the region's Championship clubs combined!
