This does go along with what I have been thinking for a while though...we are clearly a top 2/3 club but something is seriously wrong to have those stats with only 6 wins from 15?!! For me, its the fact we dont have a killer instinct and can't break teams down as a team. The fact we're well down on the attacking kicks and Runs from Dummy Half also show our failings in the most important postitions halfback and hooker. For me this proves my point, we need a coach with tactics and moves who can get our players playing as a team, and we also need a WC halfback to go with tompkins to give us some orchestration in the middle. Get that and I think we will quickly go back to where we belong!

Simple. We've played at least 1 more game than the rest of the league. Some teams two more.

Yes but I doubt we will be overtaken sufficiently even with an extra game to drop us on any of those stats below 3rd. I'd say they show we're a top team but with problems at the moment.

You have the same problems we had at start of the year - defence. Whats the stats on your one on one defences or missed tackles?

You are kidding yourself mate. People on these sites quote stats all the time but the truth is they often mean very little, as your stats show. Some players can look good if you look at their stats but anyone who knows anything about Rugby can see that they are not. The same applies to teams.

Its a pity the game isnt played in Phil Clarkes front room, you would then be champions. Sadly you have been selective in the stats you have picked, none of which touch on defence. To make it worse the areas you believe require improvement are dummy half runs and kicks- no mention of defence.

There's your problem-Wire won on Fri not 'cause they racked up a huge score, more they didn't allow you to score after minute 6.

He's picked stats that are interesting given our league position, I'm sure he is prepared to apologise seeing as it's a disgrace the OP picked stats that fit the title of the thread and not your needs.

we seem to have it together going forward. would be interesting to see where we stand defensively.

Statistics are like mini skirts , they show a lot but hide all the good stuff

Only stat im interested in is the 1 that shows a team full of internationals, potential internationals and other so called good players that is maxing the cap out wont be in the play offs at the end of the year.

So when comparing like with like we can see that in attack we score lots of tries, make average metres with a very low amount of carries, loads of offloads, loads of clean breaks and a decent amount of tackle busts. However, we're also 8th worst on errors per game.

IMO this shows we're offloading too much, because even though we're making loads of clean breaks we're also giving away loads of possession (hence the low carries), causing us to make few metres (hence the average metres. This could be because the props aren't making the hard yards though, because even though our tackle busts are high it seems to be non props making them (top three tackle busters for us are Hock, Leuluai and Ainscough). Thus we are forced to throw the ball around to get up the pitch.

Now we should look at the other side of the ball to get the full picture. Defence.

Tackles - 13th per game!!!
Marker tackles - 4th per game
Missed tackles - 13th worst per game!!!
Penaltes - 2nd per game
Points conceeded per game - 8th per game

Some very telling stats there! It looks like even though we make loads of errors we're making a very low amount of tackles and a very high amount of missed tackles, resulting in us giving away lots of points. So, the big problem seems to be defence, us offloading at daft times and the props geting dominated. What's new?
