This was done several years ago and was a hugh success with thousands locked out of robin park that nite ( i was lucky enough to get in ) why hasnt this been repeated maybe take it to sportscity (manchester) it holds around 5 thousand and would be an ideal venue. any thoughts ?

Was done for Sport Relief last time I think. It's a good money maker but doesn't really prove anything.

It has to be done with first teamers though, many clubs just sent juniors to the event which basically proves nothing.

They could do it for the steve prescott fund but make sure they send 1st team players, it very was well done last time with things going on for all the family during the evening.

Did they do one for kickers aswell? Think I remember seeing something on the SL show.

Fastest man Wire would win it hands down with Penny....then again we want first team standard players so i guess he would be excluded from selection.

The only time I could see this working is in pre season, a week or two before Super League kicks off. That way clubs will probably be more willing to use their first team players and turnout will be boosted because everyone's been deprived of rugby for so long. The only problem is the weather wouldn't be ideal.

I reckon Hicks wouldnt be far off as the fastest. I know its been a few years now and he's older but I remember reading how Manly did trails for Speed and Strength etc and Hicks was the fastest and could just beat 11 seconds for 100m

Played poorly and picked 2 points up.

We will send up Melling, LMS or Sharpe for the race. Worrying when a prop is one of the fastest in the club.

Because not enough people would care enough to cover the costs of closing down a city centre!

Clubs simply don't want to risk their players pulling a hamstring.

There is no reason at all to suggest they would though, these players sprint week in week out in training. I personally think it is just a lethargy for some clubs not sending first teamers and also a bit of a risk to players reputations if they underperform.

Money going to as mentioned the S. Prescott Fund, I would't think players would turn it down if they knew it was going to a fund like that.

There was a kicking event last year or the year before at Odsal IIRC. Richards took part. Think maybe Sykes won it ?

Tom Hemmingway won it i think, it involved all aspects of kicking.

I think it's a great idea. If I remember rightly, last time Darren Albert won, Dave Halley came 3rd but i'm not sure about second.

We'd have Deacs for kicking( its all he's good for now) and Halley for 100m.

If i recall correctly a Leeds reserve player came second.
