| As I glanced at the Wigan scoreboard clock last night, it was on 77mins and then it disappeared, it then momentarily flashed up 80mins, but the game ended about 10 minutes later after this?
This isn't a dig, just wondering why would this happen? I mean, it's not as though you get added time in RL for injuries..

| The clock on the scoreboad keeps going even when the ref calls time off. It happens nearly every game at the JJB i think.

| I doubt the scoreboard clock is stopped every time the ref stops his watch. And he did seem happy to stop his watch at every available opportunity in that last 10 minutes.

It isn't, which is why they take it off towards the end of the game.

It's always like that, to stop any confusion. The scoreboard clock does not allow for injury time. A couple of years back a club coach (can't remember who) complained, thinking that the game was over when the 80 minutes was up on the stadium clock.

Correct comment Rogues, the clock is just a guide & it doesnt represent actual game time

| It's been taken off ever since a game a few years a go (Russell Smith was ref) and the hooter actually went with the scoreboard clock saying about 30 seconds left. Think it was against Huddersfield but may be wrong. Whoever it was, was pointing towards the scoreboard asking where the time is because the game was close.

| There needs to be a real-time clock at non-televised games. There was a few people sat round me who made their way down to the exits thinking the game must be nearly over. There was a good 5 or 6 minutes played after that!

| It fooled the Wigan players as well because they were panicking throwing the ball about for fun at 18-12 down with the scoreboard saying 4 to go when reality was there was 12 mins to go because they ended up playing 8 minutes stoppage time (I time it because I can't see the scoreboard in my seat underneath it).

Exactly.....was saying this last night. We might not have won if there was a real time clock but we would have had more of a chance. I would say 50% of our errors came in the last 10 when we were chasing the game and the players must have looked at the score board thinking theres only 3 mins left...we've got to force it, which in those conditions is only going to end with one thing!!
If they would have known there was 10 mins left, we would have played with far more composure in that last 10 and possibly got up the other end and got a try!! I mean how hard can it be with everything being digital now, to have the timekeepers watch rigged up to the scoreboard?!!?

The clock should be removed althoghether!
I know the clock isn't real time and I'm not being paid 100k a year to play there!
Our halves, Tim Smith in particular, were shocking last night.
1st half I was screaming for us to kick early, 3rd 4th tackle and turn them round. Briscoe dropped 3 balls bringing it back last night and I et we didn't kick to him more that 5 times!
2nd half we didn't kick once before the last and the Tim Smith kick incident was shocking play on Wigan's part.
Everyone could see both teams were pressuring kickers on the last so HKR got the kick away early on 3rd/4th under No pressure.
Surely the risk in playing 4th/5th tackle ball in hand to gain what? Another 1o mtrs could easily be outweighed by kicking earlier and further before wingers drop back etc.
A great 6 & 7 would have done that!

| This is 2009 why cant we have a clock rigged up to the scoreboard that is stopped every time the ref stops it. Im sure they do this very well at quins altho the annoucer says its not offical time but very near too.

I don't want to sound like I'm being funny but why does it matter? The game finishes when the hooter goes, simple really when you think about it (that's if you hear it of course)

Of course it matters. It changes the game completely. Had there been a proper clock last night (had the game been on sky), the players would have known when the scoreboard showed 77 that there was still infact 12 minutes left!! How can you seriously say they wouldnt have played differently??! the reason we made so many errors late on was because we were chasing the game and thought we had to force it as there was only a few mins left when in fact there was 12 mins to go!!!!! Had the game been on sky we would have played completely differently.
Its the same argument as the VR. It should either be used in all games or not at all because otherwise it unfairly changes other games!! We would have played the last 10 completely differently had it been on sky and therefore a proper clock should be used just as much as a VR shoud be either at every match or not at all!!!

| Its very irritating - why on earth there can't be a clock like there is on the Sky screen (which is stopped when the referee calls time off) at every game I simply do not know.

The players can always open their mouths and ask the ref how long is left in that situation I can't believe all the furore over a clock. Oh, hang on a minute yes I can it's wigan fans!

Tbf the referee clearly does not know how long is left- it is the timekeepers job, as was evident with Hull KRs first try!
Therefore it should surely be linked up to the scoreboard. We would have played that last 10 completely different if we'da known how long was left

Exactly. The ref doesn't signal the end of play, the timekeeper does.
3 mins left or 12 mins left... that could have made a difference if the players had known. Time for real-time clocks at all games methinks.

I think the same went for us. Rovers players must have looked at the scoreboard aswell because we went for 2 drop goals obviously to try and seal the game when at least another 8 minutes were played after the attempts.
