MPs call for Halifax rules change
Rugby League chiefs are being urged to change their rules to allow Halifax into the Super League next season.

Halifax are currently top of the Championship, having won every game, but the top flight has a three-year freeze on promotion and relegation.

Nine Labour MPs have signed a Commons motion, saying the club has a "stadium and a team fit for purpose".

They have urged the sport's governing body the Rugby Football League (RFL) to review its policy."

That was my first thought when I saw it!

I think they were in a bit of a mess money-wise last year, but they seem to have their house in order a bit more now.

Wait until the end of the season where they finish Leigh and Widnes have better stadiums

Wasn't this exactly how it was supposed to go anyway? The championship teams get three years to sort themselves out ready to apply for Super League when the francises come up for renewal? Ok, Halifax have won all their games so far but so what? This won't be the only criteria the RFL will be looking at when making their decision. If their finances were in a mess, they've still got another two and a half years to sort them out and two and a half years to increase their player development.

I'm sure they want to have a strong squad so that they can compete in SL rather that what's happening at Celtic, who've won naff all so far and imo were rushed in to SL purely because they were a team from outside the heartlands. Tbh I think either Widnes or Leigh would have been much more competitive than Celtic.

either way, they know the rules and if they carry on there's a very good chance they'll make a grand final (maybe this year's) and therefore be eligible to apply.

They should apply for a liscence for 3 years time and see if they get in, this is just stupid. Hopefully they will bring it up to 16 teams for 3 years time otherwise I beleive it will be the same teams all over again.

'Fax is a rugby town and they can attract decent crowds, unlike some in SuperLeague.

Just a ploy to defelect from the recent MP expense stories and give the impression that they do actually care for the local electorate.

Not sure even if Fax applied for a SL franchise last time round.

They were in big financial strife a couple of years back but have now got a very decent NL together but it is a NL team - just check out the playing rosta.

to be honest though widnes when they went up didnt have many players of super league quality if any. we have 3 maybe a couple more in our squad that would cope and hold there own in super league like penkywicz and gleeson and maybe a couple more, ok we would have to make some signings but which team hasnt when then have been promoted to super league.

Just because Halifax have sorted themselves out and are winning for the first time in years does not give them right they think they can walk into Super League.

But they are not - the link to the quotes of the Fax chairman makes that abundantly clear - it is just a bit of publicity seeking, easy headline grabbing self-promotion from a bunch of wasters otherwise known as MPs

Statement from Halifax RLFC

"Halifax RLFC wish to distance themselves from Thursday’s Early Day Motion put forward in the House of Commons by nine Labour MPs. The motion (number 1387) asked the House to urge the RFL to review its current franchise policy and allow Halifax to enter Super League for the beginning of the 2010 season.

The club had no knowledge of this motion until several members of the media contacted the club on Thursday afternoon seeking a response. The club is disappointed with the actions of the MPs, which has caused considerable embarrassment to the club.

Halifax RLFC remain committed to securing a place in Super League for 2012, and will continue to execute its business plan in the right and proper manner to achieve that target, adhering to the RFL’s rules and procedures as accepted by all member clubs."

FWIW Fax did indeed apply for a SL place last year but knew we didn't stand a chance against Manchester and Wales. Our tactics were (pretty much like Fev) to see what we have in place now and what we have to work on so that by 2012 we will be shoo-ins.

The East Stand is FINALLY taking shape, the gates are going up, we have more sponsors coming into the club, but most importantly we have a product on the field which is exciting and full of young British players Fax fans are proud of and are catching the eye of all RL fans.

After 2003 the last thing we wanted was to rush into SL with 2,000 or so fans and get whalloped every week, that's Celtic's job

Will your players have to wear socks if they get into superleague ??

Unfortunately yes, but to aid the expansion of the game the socks will have been made in Wquador.

thought i was seeing things last night when he had no socks on. reminded me of when i used to play first to the socks and shorts or you get none or the really crap ones that are to tight with holes in !
