I hope that is metaphorically speaking !
Apart from his try at Quins he hasn't done much, and his defence is dire.
He's certainly no John Ferguson.

| Squad rotation imo. Pryce deserves a chance like Smith deserves his chance aswell.

| Roberts has been ok so far to be fair to him and he is coming back from an operation so it's bound to take time to settle but i agree with Nobles decision to srop him tonight.
He didn't play well against Leeds and Pryce is ripping up trees in the reserves. He also played well in his one first team game against Cas so warrents his chance.
Amos will have to work hard in the reserves to get his place back and thats exactly how it should be. We have a big squad with plenty of depth especially in the backs so players have to be kept on their toes.

| It's interesting to see that now we have some depth in the squad, Noble isn't afraid to drop players as and when needed - and also promote them into the team when he feels they deserve it.
Something many people have said that he would never do.................

He won't get credit for it!!
Dropping Roberts is the right decision as Noble says Quote We certainly need him to help us a whole lot more in relation to games.'" We do, his pathetic effort against Leeds was fully deserved of seeing him missing out on selection.

We'd miss Fielden if he didn't play imo.
He may not be the Fielden of old and he may not be worth the big bucks we're paying him but that doesn't make him a bad player.
He's still the best prop we've got.

i dont think he is the best prop we have got, Feka is our best prop by far. He makes the yards and does some solid work nowadays. To be honest i think dropping Fielden for a game wouldnt do any harm, i think our other props could more than cover for his absence in the rotation system whereby we have 4 props in the sqaud, Feka plays 40 minutes therefore the other 3 props need only play 40 minutes each as well.
We could have Prescott and Coley as the more stable props of the four with Feka and O'Carroll as the bigger impact props so to speak, play Coley and Feka and Prescott and O'Carroll or any combination of the four.
I do think we need to be looking for ways to give Fielden a wake up call

I don't think Feka is your best prop. I admit it frightens teams when he comes on and he does do a lot of work, but a lot of the time he can't even manage 40 minutes. Against quins he played for 26 minutes total.

Thats fair enough though i do think he has improved his times on field massively over the recent months. I think he could easily manage 40 minutes at the moment. The point i am trying to make if that regardless of how long he is on the gield i feel that Feka's 26 minutes make a more significant contribution to the team than Fieldens workman like 80 minutes. Not to say Fielden is anonymous because he isnt, he gets through a lot of work but at the minute he is unspectacular to say the least. I'm just trying to think of ways to motivate or rejuvinate a great prop who whilst still doing A job, he isnt doing THE job he was brought in for which is to lead the pack by example and live up to the tag he earned at Bradford.
I'm not belittling the job he is doing currently just saying he has shown more previously.

This isn't a dig, but maybe it's the quality of players around Fielden that means he's not living up to his Bradford days. With a lot of other big forwards and really pacey backs (2002,3,4) he was shaped into a really good player. You do have a good side but i think Fielden fitted into those sides perfectly as he didn't have to do as much work and he could concentrate on certain areas instead of carrying the team at certain points in the game.

| He had far more support at Bradford, and with players like Anderson and Vagana providing the bulk up front he was left to play 80 minutes and was extremely effective.
Now he's expected to produce for Wigan, what Anderson and Vagana for Bradford, as we have nobody else to do it.
It's easier to blame Fielden than it is to the look at the facts we haven't provided him with enough support in the front row since he's been here.
His work rate is no less than it was at Bradford, he just doesn't have 2 x 6'4, 19 stone guys playing along side helping him to smash the opposition. That's the biggest difference between the player we saw at Bradford, and the player we see at Wigan.
At Wigan he's expected to carry a very average pack, at Bradford he was part of great pack that had the size and ability to dominate, something our pack doesn't have, and hasn't had since he's been here. It would be the same if Fielden left, and in my opinion we'd be a far worse team if he did just that.

| I understand your points but i think we dont let our other props offer him support in the same way Bradford did, possibly because of Nobby's lack of faith in O'Carroll or Prescott?
Obviously im not saying we can match the Bradford pack and Vainikolo of a few years ago but we're a good pack in SL terms of today, not bad anyway, we can compete with most teams in the forwards i would say
