| Quote ="jaws1"Having lost my Sister in Law and also her husband my brother in Law with the virus it brings it home what a dreadful virus this is .My wife has a lot of disabilities diabetes ,heart problem ,kidney disease there is no way i would put her life at risk just to watch a game of rugby. She has never left the house since March 3rd I am fit for my age but I'm self isolating as well only going out for a walk and going shopping after 6 when supermarket empty. I am a season ticket holder also Have SKY sports so i can watch the game in the safety of my home, I would not want a refund of my season ticket .If my wife got the virus most probably she would not survive .'"
Sorry to hear of your issues, my wife is scheduled for sugery and when she gets the date all the family are expected to isolate 2 weeks prior and 1 week after she goes into the hospital.
If im honest I was not that bothered about the season ticket I have, however I am dissapointed with the lack of consultation with the fans and also the players reluctance to accept changes to their pay. There are a lot of people that have been affected adversley by this crisis including fans of WRL. Without the fans there is no club and we have been asked to support the club in difficult times and its intimated to help the club by not seeking refunds for games that are not played at the DW. I was all on board with that but as the silence from the club drags on and I hear of the issues with players wages I am feeling less inclined to do the "decent thing" it feels like we are not all in this together.
I did send a letter to the club in response to the letter from IL. I did get a reply from the club which was little more than a wait and see whats happening. Its begining to look like the club are taking a Donald Trump outlook and hope that it all goes away,if other clubs have been able to offer various options for their fans then there is no reason that WRL could not do the same.

I think we need to separate the two things. Players come and players go, very few of them have that loyalty to the club like we fans do. Some supporters have been coming week in week out for 60-70 years+
Players are just looking out for themselves, some of those who forsee a long a long career with the club may be more understanding of pay cuts compared to other players who are only here for the 'short term'.
Its the club I care for (plus the youth development side of things which has always been one of our strengths).

I believe that it's the senior players who have been the most upset about proposed pay cuts. When I heard this I was pretty upset myself as I pay for 3 season tickets and was prepared to take the "hit" on all 3.
If the club change their proposed payments to players then I will be revising my position on forgoing a refund on my season tickets.

I’ve been watching for over 50 years and will continue to do so, I just feel frustrated that there is no ongoing dialogue with the fans. The WRL website is just repeating the same pattern of highlighting games of yesterday and there is no insight into what’s going on. If I was going to rely on the good faith of fans I would be doing more to engage them.

I have been prepared to take the hit on the missed games, but there has been nothing that’s happened since the letter from IL to make me feel like I should. It will be early bird ticket payment soon that’s not going to be an easy sell in the current climate

The senior players are the ones nearest retirement, and often don't have great options for immediate employment. They will also likely feel more empowered to speak up than an academy lad who could be let go any minute. They also lose the most money, assuming it's a percentage cut and some of the younger lads can't legally have their wages cut by much anyway because it would fall below minimum wage.
I don't begrudge the players at all for wanting to get paid well for a short career that demands so many sacrifices and can all be over after one injury or bad season. We've had plenty of bad stories already about things going wrong for some of our heroes shortly after retirement. Look at Danny Sculthorpe, Malcolm Alker and Brett Dallas to name a few. All three had good careers but then had financial issues alarmingly quickly after finishing up which had serious consequences.

Millions of people have been on 80 % of their pay for months IL is looking for ST holders to forgo refunds yet players aren't prepared to share some of pain??
I hear what you are saying Grimmy but it still wrankles that some people think that they should immune from any financial impact.
I was told that it was the signing of Bateman that triggered some the resentment in the proposed pay cuts.

I can see their POV. If the club can afford Bateman on a high salary next year then I can see why a player would want them to honour his already agreed contract. Having said that, if it's some of the senior players you're upset with, why hurt the club? It makes little difference to those players whether you demand a refund or not. There are plenty of clubs they can go to if we hit hard times, many of them are leaving anyway this year. The club and the fans don't have that luxury. They are the ones who suffer if enough people demand refunds.

Have the players not been on Furlough? If so, they've taken the 'pain' you've mentioned and this is now about sorting things going forward. Should they be expected to continue to take a cut when millions are now back on 100%?
ATEOTD this is their job and it has nothing to do with us as fans. Every players situation is different and it's up to the individual to what is right for them.

I've just seen a post on Facebook, doesn't go into much detail but it's an update of sorts I suppose:

Quote Fan Engagement Board Update
The Fan Engagement Board met this evening with Adrian Ward, Marketing Manager at Wigan Warriors. Some updates to the questions posed yesterday, which can be shared -
- Season Ticket Options - these have been prepared by the club and they are ready to be shared with supporters. There is an incentive that is dependent on approval from key stakeholders in the game and as soon as the green light is given to the club for that - the options will be shared with season ticket holders. The message from the club at the moment is to please ensure that your email address is up to date on the clubs records - so that you receive the options directly.
- A comprehensive FAQs document has been produced which will accompany the options for season ticket holders.
- Cardboard cut outs at games - this will be happening and will be announced over the next few days.
- The club is looking at lots of hypothetical options of social distancing at the DW, when crowds are allowed to return. This is will be dictated by the government but the club is investing in a technology for the ticketing system that will allow smart ticket sales and seat allocation based on whatever the government recommendation is at the time.
- The DW has been stocked with hand sanitizing stations just before lockdown, which are ready for when crowds can reattend.
- In regards to Wigan TV showing Super League games during the 2020 season, there is an announcement pending from the Super League which will set out the plan for the broadcasting for the remainder of the season, however with the Toronto news, this may be delayed slightly.
- The club and FEB will be looking at what options are available for the club to host watch parties of games with past players / non playing players until crowds are allowed back in stadiums.
Flags - One thing the FEB were looking at pre lockdown, was improving match day atmosphere and one element of this, was increasing and updating the flags we have at the DW. We will be sharing some new design options and a go fund me page, for fans to vote on their favourite and contribute to new flags, so that when we return to the DW, we can update the flags. We hope to share the designs with you very soon ....'"

Not correct if what was printed in the league Express 2 months plus ago
Each player fitted into a bracket dependant on their current salary
The top earners took something like 50% cuts meaning a 250k player was on 125.
Furlough would cover 30k of that (at the monthly rate uo to 2500pm) but the club would then pay the residue up to their equivalent
So, in the example above a player on 250k reduced to 125k would be on just over 10k permonth and the club are paying the difference between furlough and that figure i.e 7.5k Per month.
Just dug out the article
All employees take a 20% cut on the first £37, 500 they earn
All employees take a 50% cut on what they earn above £37,500
So my example above is not a million Miles off
A 100k player would lose 7500 of the first 37,500 leaving 30k
50% of 62,500 leaving 31,500
Total left 61,500
Monthly wage £5125
Furlough would cover the first 2.5k of it.
Obviously there will be tax deducted etc but you get the point.
The club pays the full amount out and then reclaims the furlough amount.

Correct
However, millions of people will lose Jobs as their chosen career/business is going through hard time such as pubs/restaurants and other hospitality industries.

If the players demand their full wages there will be no business.
Income is practically zero and the only way TV money will come rolling in is if we play, if we dont we wont get it and the players will get nothing (administer etc.).
The reality is, something will be written into players contracts in future to cover situations like this of theyve any sense (awaits usual responses).
But the Bateman contract is next years contract based on next years forecasts inc Full TV money and attending spectators
Currently with no TV money and no game and spectators the players canneither play ball for 6 months and get something, or get nothing if it all goes belly up.

That's true, but like I said every players situation is different so I'm not going to judge.
A top player maybe inclined to hold out for 100% pay, knowing they could get the same or better money in the NRL. Is this not what happened with Thompson ( I might be wrong)?
It's a cliche, but it's a job and I expect each player to weigh up what's right for them and their families.

Wait until you see the new team badge
Be interesting to see if anyone other than the club will finance a flag of the new badge. Ancient & Loyal won’t be on the shirt next year I’m led to believe

Do you mean that the club is contemplating having one of those badges which has no reference to the town of the club.
At the time, the gang of four was running the club, there was a similar suggestion that the badge bearing the coat of arms of the old Wigan Borough be replaced by another badge, but it was rejected by the Directors and rightly so. Maurice Lindsay said that supporters should always be proud to wear a shirt with the "Ancient and Loyal" badge on it as it told others of our local pride in being part of Wigan.
Is nothing sacred these days?
