| Hansen has never really set the world alight for me. Hes just an average joe. Nothing spectacular in defence or attack.
Joel Tomkins is a much much better forward as is Gaz Hock as is Hoffman. Thats before you even consider the frightening potential of Mossop and Farrell. H will be no real loss at all IMO.
As Alex said above its just slightly annoying that it looks like another club will benefit from all our hard work developing him into a very good SL player.
He just has not kicked on for me to turn into a real force like J Tomkins has. Wigan have some tough decisions to make regarding young players leaving the club and IMO they have this one spot on. He has had a chance to prove his worth and when you look at other young players around him, he has not really delivered. It is just unfortunate for him we have so many young quality forwards.

I don't see where this Hansen bashing has come from tbh. Taking away any "potential" any of the youngsters have (to a level that they may or may not finally achieve), he's been our 2nd best 2nd rower this season behind Joel who has been outstanding. I don't see how much more he could have done.

yup. we are better with him on the field. for all the potential guys like liam farrell have hansen is presently a better player, second best second row after joel who has been one of the best in the league.

Personally I dont see why everyone loves him so much on here. The truth as far as I can see is we lost Hansen to injury for a good few months yet our league position shows that he was not at all missed so not sure how you come to the conclusion he has been our 2nd best second rower.

| Think H has come on leaps and bounds since coming back from injury.
That try against Leeds was like a knife through butter........great try!

I disagree - we lost Amos Roberts who was the best player in the league at the time and yet our league position shows that he wasnt missed at all either. H is an unsung hero of this team IMO. He does all the hard work, never misses a tackle, makes good metres, runs good angles and scores his own fair share of trys. So he doesnt do all the things that stand out like Joel does or like Hock did but that doesnt make him a bad player. I for one would like to see him stay at Wigan for the rest of his career & it would be a big mistake to let him go. He would walk into any Super League side.

| My worry is he is beginning to become a little injury prone iirc
Has anyone got stats to show how many games he's been out with injuries in the last few years?

| Hes a very good player. I did say that on my original post but the truth is we cannot keep them all.
Hansen wants more money and as a working man myself so do I so I do not question him for that. The club have obviously decided he is not worth the extra money and I can see why as he has not set himself apart to be invaluable to the club...like Joel for example.
Fortunatly we have a wealth of young british second rowers. Mossop is going to be a beast if tidys up a few errors in his game. Farrell is already as good, if not better than Hansen in my eyes. An excellent young forward. Hoffman, Hock and J Tomkins are another level from Hansen.
I agree he would walk into all of the other super league teams, but so would Farrell, Mossop, J Tomkins, Hock and Hoffman.

| H is signed to Wigan until the end of next season and has been offered a new contract extension, he has injured his shoulder but it is NOT a reoccurence of his recent bicep tear, he felt it pop at the weekend but had to come off after making a more couple more tackles.
He spent yesterday in hospital getting scans and x-rays which turned out to be inconclusive but the Doc said he DOESNT need an op and he is hopeful to be back soon but he is gutted.
by the way i asked him at 3pm about his so called Salford move and he is still laughing about it now! the paper printed his name instead of Phil Bailey!

Thanks for the info.
So he doesn't need an operation, hopeful to be back soon? Not having dislocated my shouler myself, how long do these things take to heal?
Could we see him take part in the playoffs afterall?

| Thanks for posting Binosh.
A fair smattering of unflattering comments on HH on this thread, which I find puzzling to be honest.
He is a top class SL player IMO and would strengthen the first team squad of any of our rivals so I would definitely want him to stay at Wigan long term. Yes in the era of the CC we need to be careful with cash but he's the sort of player we want at Wigan.

| He loves the club as far as I can see and I dont see any reason for him to leave Wigan Rugby League.
However people to say he is just an average player shocks me, the considerable size he has put on in the last 12 months or so (not surprising since Madge and Bitcon came on board) is unbelievable for me and he now looks more of a second rower rather than a centre filling in at second row.
He has delivered this season whenever asked, he kept hold of the ball after THAT massive hit by Morley in the win at the HJ which for me set the marker for our season, put us top and we have stayed there ever since. He come back from that injury and scored the tremendous try at Headingly showing a mixture of strength, pace and sheer determination that he wasnt going to be stopped.
Long may it continue H.

| H rarely breaks the line when taking the ball up, and all in all wasn't really missed when he was out for a good few months, it was that period when we really established ourselves as league leaders.
Great work ethic, great tackle work rate as a solid often mistake free forward, but not a world beater. There are already better more talented runners of the ball in the back row than him.

True to a certain extent but he's the type of player every team needs one of in the 17. He tackles like his life depends on it, runs good lines and generally works his socks off for every second he is on the pitch.

| I'm glad he's staying, I think he's a lot better than he is given credit for. IIRC didn't Trent Barrett say he is one of the best players at the club because of the angles he runs?

Who's Hansen bashing?
As far as I can see, people who are questioning his future are using constructive criticism. Can't we express our opinions on here without being accused of ''bashing'' players? It's nothing personal.
The point I'm trying to make personally, is that I wouldn't expect nor want Wigan to match a big offer Hansen is offered at another club where he will be expected to play a much more dominant and pivotal, starting role. In my opinion based on his performances upto date and considering the signings and young players coming through the ranks, his future role at Wigan is always going to as an impact player.
Like I said, the thread now appears to be hypothetical . But it's a bit insulting when posters are accused of ''bashing'' players when simply questioning a players future role within the club.

I agree. But isn't this thread about 'Hansen to Salford'? If he wanted to go as he feels he's not gonna be first choice then fair enough, he isn't IMO one of 3 first choice back rowers due to the reasons I stated previously.
If he wants to go for money then again fair enough, he's not such a key player that we should break the bank for him-IMO.
Everyone has a role and a level in professional sport, Hansen is a good squad man, great work ethic, especially in def, but not a world beater.
