I'm another in the Walters in camp. I think both the starting second rowers would benefit from a breather here and there and Walters can also cover prop. I'd just bring him in for Hill I think, although that would feel slightly harsh on Hill after pre season and I'd be pressing Byrne and Dupree for more to keep their places for Vegas.

Watched the fc highlights back, they looked fairly decent and was great to see Cade cust at his best. Not sure if Catalan made them look better but Fc tries were well worked and they looked slick in attack. We usually struggle at hull. I think stick with the Leigh line up maybe bring Miski in for Eckersley

Hope it doesn't go as well this week but it was extremely pleasing to see him looking confident and happy again. I get the feeling we'll be really focused this week and will get the job done pretty professionally. Last week will have stung and I recall seeing mention in pre season that the players want to put their bad record in Hull to bed this season.

I was also really pleased to see Cust looking fit, healthy and enjoying his rugby. Ever since he did his elbow in the CC final at Spurs he seems to have been playing injured. Re Wigan selection, I hope Walters gets a run as he adds something different on the edges. Faz getting binned messed up Dupree and Magos spells off the bench and I think reduced their effectiveness.

He had a great pre season and was really causing the opposition problems but Leigh dealt with him pretty comfortably. In fairness to him, from memory I seem to recall him being on at a time when Leigh were down our end and trying to pin us in a bit and nobody was making much ground at the time. I noticed that with Walters in the reserves. Maybe a warm up for a bit of a different role in the first team. I would always include him as one of the four bench players because of that versatility (and ignoring anything going on in training for example) but I get why Peet has picked the players he has over this last year or so.

I hope Walters gets a solid run. He looked really good when he played last year. Hopefully a main stay at 2nd row replacing faz next year

Walters definitely needs to be fazed in to faze faz out, if he is on the bench he can cover SR and prop

His ability to play prop and secondrow is really useful. Some nice rugby played but we didn’t seem to get out of 3rd gear. Not sure how short some people's memories are, but Hill was excellent Vs Penrith (almost 12 months to the day). I'd give Walters a run of games, but let's not write Hill off either. Was expecting a tougher game and we lacked sharpness and a bit of confidence in the first 25 mins or so but then found a bit of a groove and Hull couldn’t live with us in the back end (thanks to that daft short drop out too). Thompson is a machine, I’ve ran out of any superlatives and absolutely take for granted that he just turns up and is what he is. I think he’s dragging Byrne along too which is good because I’ve never been a fan but we need him with Havard missing and Dupree/Hill not doing much this week or last. Made up for Walters, we need him fit and firing so that edge can have a threat that Farrell doesn’t seem to give us these days. Miski and his finishing again though makes him look awfully unfit so some benefit of the doubt with his knee being strapped up but concerning long term. Hope everyone who is going to Vegas enjoys it and we treat it like a cup final. If we do, I don’t see Warrington living with us on that narrow pitch.

If we do, I don’t see Warrington living with us on that narrow pitch.[/quote:112q29ze] Thompson is one of the best props in world rugby, we took a massive risk signing him (I thought a risk we didn’t need to take) with his injury record in Oz and thought we might treat him a little like Lockers in his last few years and keep him wrapped up for the big games and business end of the season but the guys a machine and has stayed fit which is amazing.

I enjoyed that game. It wasn't the most exciting but it was great to watch as a Wigan fan. The attack has improved tenfold from last week, and we've conceded one try in the last four regular season games that stretch back to the end of 2024; unbelievable stat. Walters was immense, his best game for us I reckon he's back to the form he had at Leeds. Thompson. What more can I say? A perpetual machine. I also thought Dupree had a great game. Solid in contact and worked hard to set the platform, especially for Mago's try. The attack finally seems to be clicking despite being very early in the season. The setpiece to send Field through the gap at the scrum was beautiful. Despite the positives, I have to keep some reservations because it was Hull FC (no disrespect intended, Hull FC look much better this year), we'll have to see how our attack and defence go against opposition like Saints, Warrington, Hull KR to understand where we're at right now.

Peet has admitted in his Wigan tv interview he didn’t get the timings of subs quite right last week. Nice to see all 4 get on early this week. Dupree had his best game for a while and Walters was a massive handful. Walters on the bench makes too much sense given his versatility.
