Easy, Pryce and McIlorum.
Smith, Tommy, Sam & Riddell dont deserve to be dropped after last week and ffs with Roberts and Gleeson we have a dangerous wing partnership going on there so lets not break it up please.

| Maybe Nobby has left him out for Wakey as he is hoping that Ainscough is going to be a strong part of our tactics when we come to face Wakey in the Cup??

Pryce & McIlorum.
Roberts looks like he is slowly getting to grips with Gleeson, We should also let Smith, Leuluai and Tomkins gel. TBH though I would drop Roberts and play Ainscough on the right if he can adapt.

| Quote ="Cruncher"I agree with you, Dave. I'd rather we saw Ainscough in the first team as well. And I'm sick to death of Noble's odd decision-making.
But at the end of the day, he's the head coach and must be allowed to select his own team. Yes, fans are bound to speculate and rumour-mong, but that's always happened - and the full truth was never told in the days of great coaches like Lowe and Monie any more than it is now.
Perhaps we ought to remember that Noble is in full control of team affairs, while we - even those among us who profess inside knowledge - are really on the sidelines. He knows far more about what's been going on in training and in the players' lives than we do. There could be any number of reasons why Ainscough hasn't been selected. To assume that it's nothing more than a case of utter stupidity by Noble - while that MAY be true - is perhaps oversimplifying things.
On this board, we - and I include myself in this - spout far too often without knowing the full facts.'"
That is fair enough but the same could be said for every odd selection decision he makes. So should we criticise or not? Or just assume Nobles knows best and leave decisions like this one without comment?
At the very least I am hoping for some form of justification from Noble for leaving Ainscough out for two games.
And if anyone thinks Noble doesn't have to justify his decisions to the fans IMO he most definitely does given his record is so poor.
Dave

Ainscough is a naturally right sided wingman according to somebody who watches the reserves every week on the other Wigan forum.
Richards vs Ainscough=Richards
Roberts vs Ainscough= Ainscough for me due to his far superior preformences this season.
Maybe the question should be-
Phelps vs Roberts for the fullback role and looking at both their preformences in the position this season Roberts would probably lose out on that score aswell.

It does make you wonder if the management regret the decision to sign Roberts and to a lesser extent Riddell and if those signings weren't made we could have perhaps solved our prop forward issue.

Signing Roberts in my opinion was neglect of the highest order, but that is not to say i do not rate him as i do i just feel there were far more pressing issues to resolve.
Dropping Ainscough is the tactic of a coach who cannot afford an error, it indicates to me that Noble is aware he is on very thin ice, it is the move of a coach who places an emphasis on not conceding rather than scoring, 2 things which we have issues with which shows just how good he is.
I would not be suprised given this squad selection that he is expecting a close game and thinking a rookie error from Ainscough could well cost him his job.
In the situation he has manufactured for himself it is probably the right call going with experience in such a game, for self preservation, something i am sure Noble is only worried about, but for the good of the club and the lad himself i think it is absolutley the wrong decision, but given we have some decent quality and depth in the outside backs its a very low risk gamble taken by BN that could well pay off and save him for a further few weeks.
I appreciate again i am going to get panned for this but i would not mind a stuffing on Sunday and next Saturday, if it ment it would signal the end of BN and the dawn of a new coach prior to the cup game, our only realistic chance of making an impact this year.
