Surely if Williams signs for the Wolves then there are serious cash flow issues at Wigan, especially as only £75K of his salary would be counted on the clubs salary cap limit (So its clearly not a salary cap problem by Wigan re signing him)

Might not be that. We might have other irons in the fire for next season and other deals are already in place. I doubt it but who knows. I said it earlier in the thread, Do i want Williams back? yes, Would i lose sleep if he went elsewhere? Not really. He is a good player but i don't think he is a match winner.

Other irons in the fire?
Who can Wigan possibly sign to replace Hastings and also instead of re signing Williams (who will only count as 75K on the clubs cap?)

He will only knock the second highest earner down to none marquee status thus all their wages counting on the cap.

Not necessarily. Wigan May have offered a fortune but still £100k less than wire. If Wigan offered £450k a year (random number and I’m not suggesting this is the case) but Wire offer £550k then I don’t blame him going for it. It doesn’t reflect on Wigan’s financial position, just their realistic approach to a players worth. The £75k salary cap is irrelevant really.

Do the maths Cobra, Williams is club trained ?
IMO he would command a salary parallel to John Bateman's, if not even slightly higher ?
Having a home grown and also a club trained marquee signing who would command a very high salary elsewhere is a snip at only 75K on a clubs salary cap surely?
So which so called second highest earner could he possibly knock down the list at Wigan ?

| It’s tough to word this without sounding bitter but here goes. I would love him back here but we have to forget the 75k thing. You’re still paying him what you’re paying him and whilst he’s a very good player, he isn’t a great one and he isn’t worth going up to crazy money for. If Wire want to pay him absolute fortunes then that’s their prerogative. A halfback worth paying above 300k a year for doesn’t need you to worry about his partner and have to look for somebody who can cover his weaknesses. It’s something we never managed to do last time and we’d still need to do now. He would cover the loss of Hastings but as we’re seeing now with Hastings, if you don’t have any go forward and you don’t have a proper coach, it doesn’t matter if you had an in his prime Wally Lewis and Andy Gregory at 6 and 7, you’re still not winning anything.
I still hope he comes here but if not then so be it. A coach and a couple of proper forwards are what Lenagan and Radlinski need to concentrate on.

Surely £750K spent on the cap for Williams over the next 10 seasons is a snip is it not?

Your owner is very wealthy man and he has previously paid over the salary cap levels due to the various dispensations allowed to the Wigan club
Clearly it's not the 75K allowance that would count against Williams is it not ?
Clearly it's his asking value that's paid into his bank account before choosing his UK club to return to and irrespective if it was a figure that would be at full value on that clubs salary cap?
I'd hazard a guess that you would pay far more on your cap and also in salary over 3 seasons If Wigan sign an Aussie Half Back rather than should you sign Williams for 10 seasons

You do the maths, how is our second highest earner “so called”? Are you saying our team all earn the same amount?
Hypothetical:
Our top 2 earner are Hastings on 300k and French on 250k, Williams comes in on 350k, yes he will only count 75k on the cap but you will lose 100k marquee dispensation on French so the signing will cost the club 175k against the cap not 75k.

Hastings is going to Wests so their for his £175 K salary would be replaced by Williams' £75 K on the cap?
Is that not cheaper?

| The cap cannot be the issue with £75K only counting towards it.
Granted you've still got to pay him his overall salary, but for me he is worth it. Whoever you sign at halfback if you want any quality you will have to pay for it
For me:
a) i think he is a brilliant player
b) who else is available of his quality?
c) we can take advantage of the fact only £75K counts on the cap and still have the wiggle room for a prop.
Let's face it what other half back of his quality is available at £75K of your cap?
Again we've no idea what Wire are offering I guess and there has to be a line in the sand at some point. It would be incredibly disappointing though. I cant understand the flippancy of if he signs for Wire "oh well". I'd be gutted.

Not what i call a game breaker nor is he a dominant half. He tackles a lot but he doesn't guide the team around like a Luke Gale does for Leeds. As i said, good player yes but not worth paying over the odds for.

| The idea he is not a match winner is nonsense.
I'm not saying he is the GOAT/Andrew Johns, but he is a bloody good player. Best half back to come out of our academy in the SL era.

I’m not sure why you’re fixed on the £75k? Wigan have to pay him his wage and if they offered good money then it negates your comments about Wigan’s financial position. If Warrington want to pay him above market value just to get him then it’s their business but Mr Lenegan is more astute than that.

It baffles me why people focus so much on cap space. It’s a number you’re allowed to spend up to but if you don’t have the physical funds, you don’t have it. Somebody could tell me I’m only allowed to spend £10,000 a month but it would be pointless them doing that as I don’t have it.
