Agreed, but the ones that didn't bother were the ones that missed out - only themselves to blame. Sometimes loyalty pays off in the face of adversity.

I was one of the few who tipped Wigan to win. If you remember Saints had beaten us 19 - 0 at KR on the Good Friday, but Wigan had bombed three tries (Julian O'Neil twice should have passed when he had support)

I was filling the car up on Warrington Road onthe Thurday night and a fan pulled up at the pumps who I recognised, but did not know personally.

"How are we going to do" I said.
"Win" he said, "We should have beaten them on Good Friday"


I grew another six inches (to 5ft 2" just before the smart s say anything)

So Friday me and mini drive up to Dumbar where we were staying, and our hotel is full of Skints supporters who took great delight in telling us what was going to happen.

When I told them about Good Friday, they just laughed.

On Friday we caught the train into Edinburgh, Liam respondent in his kilt, and met up with our mob, who although staying in Dunbar were only traveling up that morning.

We found a bar near Tynecastle and sunk "quite a few" arriving just in time for Abide with Me.

The last 20 minutes of that game I swear took 3 hours. Ian Millard and Eamonn McMannuss faces at the end of the game were pictures to behold, but not as good as those Skints fans who scurried out of the Hotel as we returned with big I told you grins on our faces.

The drive home next day was superb, big smiles and courteous waves

to our Merseyside friends.

Too right - they missed a treat.

Same again this weekend I hope - shame there isn't a trophy on the line this time. Although I think I aged 20 years in the last 10 mins in 2002, so its probably for the best.

TBF Wigan Fans buy more tickets for the Cup Final "Pre" the finallists being known so that would have evened it up a bit!

We stayed at a hotel in Glasgow went up Sauchiehall St at night drunk as a skunk. Just remembered Andy Greg was in our hotel.

Walking into the ground with my dad behind an elderly couple. My dad clocked who it was and told me it was Johnnie Lawrenson (ask your grandad). Anyhoo, the chap in the kiosk was of a similar age and was stuned to see him. As he took our ticket he said I don't believe it, that's Johnnie Lawrenson we played Rugby together when we did our National Service.

They hadn't seen each other for 60 years.

We gave him an Uncle Joe and moved on.

Although it does help that erindoors in a Sweaty and we used to have a flat in Edinburgh. Lets just say I know where to get a drink at the weekend.

It sure did, i remember walking out of the ground after just losing and there was a great be clap of Thunder, it kind of summed it all up

i do remember the final hooter going and my dad going to hug me, missing my body completely and bear hugging my face. my nose let out an almighty crack and i told him i thought i'd broke my nose. he proceeded to jump up and down and ignore me.

We did. 6 of us, to watch us lose. It got really foggy iirc, or was it thundering and lightening? I was pleading for the game to be stopped.

Remember it very well, stayed on a Caravan Club site the night before and needed a wee at about 3 O'Clock in the morning so had one in a bush next to the Caravan.

The bloke in charge of the site knocked on our caravan door at 7am and kicked us off the site despite my grovelling apology. (He'd never seen anything so disgusting in all his life apparently, must have had good eyes

)

My dad was not pleased but got over it.

Fantastic weekend!! Couldn't believe the number of Stains fans on the way up there - well, the lack of Wigan fans. Our useless coach driver only got us into Edinburgh about 2.10pm so we didn't even have time for a quick sherbert



I'm sure there wasn't a visible clock in the stadium, it was a horrible feeling not knowing how long was left and Stains pressing our line in the latter stages, but to no avail



Stopped at a services on the way home (desperate to find some booze to sneak on the coach!) and there was a group of Stains fans having a big argument

Couldn't wait to get back to Wigan, went to the Unicorn in Billinge and staggered out well after hours and singing songs all the way home, hopefully reminding any glum Stains who live up that way!!
