You say "It also doesn't mean difficulties can't be overcome."
Do you not think that they may have looked into overcoming them and maybe, just maybe the cost/risk of doing so may not be worth it or safe?
Because I know (Through conversation with Wigan Staff & other staff at SL & CHampionship level inc. a Chief Exec) that it's Nightmare!!! And they have been discussing everything, but eventually Safe & Cost efficient decisions need to be made and have been for the best of All Clubs to keep the game afloat. 90% + of these decisions/reasons won't be on the radar of the general public because it isn't our job to do it.
I'm involved in Amateur cricket - This was supposed to be back up and running last week (And indeed a couple of friendlies did go ahead last week).
Without going into detail a couple of issues have arisen and this weeks games in Liverpool & Lancs (Everything under the Lancs jurisdiction) has been called off.
I've got here the Risk Assessment etc. details that have now come out that Every club have to adhere to BEFORE they can even train never mind play & it's a Nightmare!!!
I'm not just "Sticking up for the RFL", god knows I wouldn't be that stupid, but I can Guarantee that Joe public won't have a Scooby about 99% of the issues involved. And I'm not sure why they're bothered ???
PS
Being Financially Responsibly as I am for a Cricket club & a Swimming club (And a Bar inside the cricket club) I can tell you the pressures to stay afloat are immense & difficult - To re-open a Bar and become Covid compliant etc. has taken us 4 weeks of planning
I'm just saying it's easy to criticise - Not so easy to do it

| Only fly in the ointment AFAIC would probably be, would I want to go to the pub to watch the games on Sky? Maybe not - I've steered clear of pubs so far. Obviously that's a decision that's up to each individual. They'll be on Wigan TV sooner or later.

Not picking holes in everything, just saying that it is not a fair format for most of the clubs.

As someone who played Cricket and Football in my younger days, I think it is far more safer to play Cricket rather than in Football and very shortly Rugby, where players are in more bodily contact with each other and also in each others faces, if they score a goal or a try.
While things are eased for those involved in team sports like bodily contact team sports like Football and Rugby, we the public now have now to wear a face mask to enter a shop, store or supermarket in addition to public transport in order to prevent a spread of the virus.
But are sports fans concerned any spreading of the pandemic at a game in a stadium.
The answer is a big resounding NO!

My personal opinion is that if it isn't safe for people to leave their homes yet (shielding still going on) and you have to wear masks in shops then it cannot possibly be safe to go to the pub. Some people can't see their relatives but can meet their mates down the local boozer. Just doesn't seem right.
As for sport, it should IMO, have been the last thing to come back. I'm glad RL is back, I just hope it isn't the farce that football has been.

Sport is Business, rightly or wrongly
Sportsmen going back to work is no different than everyone going back to work "Where possible & safely".
You may think it's been a farce, butbheres one for you, what about the 10million reasons Wigan ath will have had to go back and play for.
In the PL it will have been 20/30 times that
Players still need paying, Bill's still need paying
Its nothing about "How it looks", it's about surviving
And just like why league 1 and 2 clubs in football couldnt afford to continue because the cost of testing/shielding etc would have been too much compared to the income they would have received making it worse.
Then championship and PL it was the other way, the lost income and the cost of not doing so would have been a disaster.
In SL the clubs need to play, but they cant afford the same cost outlay that PL/Champ clubs can to get games on.
So we will have to make more sacrifices.
As Rogues says
Get on with it

That could happen (and has happened) to shops and pubs. Not going down a political discussion though which it then becomes.

Having lost my Sister in Law and also her husband my brother in Law with the virus it brings it home what a dreadful virus this is .My wife has a lot of disabilities diabetes ,heart problem ,kidney disease there is no way i would put her life at risk just to watch a game of rugby. She has never left the house since March 3rd I am fit for my age but I'm self isolating as well only going out for a walk and going shopping after 6 when supermarket empty. I am a season ticket holder also Have SKY sports so i can watch the game in the safety of my home, I would not want a refund of my season ticket .If my wife got the virus most probably she would not survive .

Sorry to hear of your issues, my wife is scheduled for sugery and when she gets the date all the family are expected to isolate 2 weeks prior and 1 week after she goes into the hospital.
If im honest I was not that bothered about the season ticket I have, however I am dissapointed with the lack of consultation with the fans and also the players reluctance to accept changes to their pay. There are a lot of people that have been affected adversley by this crisis including fans of WRL. Without the fans there is no club and we have been asked to support the club in difficult times and its intimated to help the club by not seeking refunds for games that are not played at the DW. I was all on board with that but as the silence from the club drags on and I hear of the issues with players wages I am feeling less inclined to do the "decent thing" it feels like we are not all in this together.
I did send a letter to the club in response to the letter from IL. I did get a reply from the club which was little more than a wait and see whats happening. Its begining to look like the club are taking a Donald Trump outlook and hope that it all goes away,if other clubs have been able to offer various options for their fans then there is no reason that WRL could not do the same.

I think we need to separate the two things. Players come and players go, very few of them have that loyalty to the club like we fans do. Some supporters have been coming week in week out for 60-70 years+
Players are just looking out for themselves, some of those who forsee a long a long career with the club may be more understanding of pay cuts compared to other players who are only here for the 'short term'.
Its the club I care for (plus the youth development side of things which has always been one of our strengths).

I believe that it's the senior players who have been the most upset about proposed pay cuts. When I heard this I was pretty upset myself as I pay for 3 season tickets and was prepared to take the "hit" on all 3.
If the club change their proposed payments to players then I will be revising my position on forgoing a refund on my season tickets.

I’ve been watching for over 50 years and will continue to do so, I just feel frustrated that there is no ongoing dialogue with the fans. The WRL website is just repeating the same pattern of highlighting games of yesterday and there is no insight into what’s going on. If I was going to rely on the good faith of fans I would be doing more to engage them.

I have been prepared to take the hit on the missed games, but there has been nothing that’s happened since the letter from IL to make me feel like I should. It will be early bird ticket payment soon that’s not going to be an easy sell in the current climate

The senior players are the ones nearest retirement, and often don't have great options for immediate employment. They will also likely feel more empowered to speak up than an academy lad who could be let go any minute. They also lose the most money, assuming it's a percentage cut and some of the younger lads can't legally have their wages cut by much anyway because it would fall below minimum wage.
I don't begrudge the players at all for wanting to get paid well for a short career that demands so many sacrifices and can all be over after one injury or bad season. We've had plenty of bad stories already about things going wrong for some of our heroes shortly after retirement. Look at Danny Sculthorpe, Malcolm Alker and Brett Dallas to name a few. All three had good careers but then had financial issues alarmingly quickly after finishing up which had serious consequences.

Millions of people have been on 80 % of their pay for months IL is looking for ST holders to forgo refunds yet players aren't prepared to share some of pain??
I hear what you are saying Grimmy but it still wrankles that some people think that they should immune from any financial impact.
I was told that it was the signing of Bateman that triggered some the resentment in the proposed pay cuts.
