What I would suggest most people are "jumping up and down about", is that Shaun Wane has spoken in the press about players trying to influence referees. Which subconsciously could have the effect of influencing referees.

It's the hypocrisy. You can't complain about players trying to milk decisions from refs (which has gone on since the dawn of the sport) and then in the next breath say that referees need to be watching out for it.

Nowhere in my responses to this thread have i said SW was right or wrong. The main hype here is that he had the temerity to speak out against something he saw and all the Wigin-haters have immediately pounced as they always do whenever he says boo to a goose.

My issue is with cheating. SW says there was cheating. People on here are not saying there was or wasn't. But rather are having a pop at SW for venturing an opinion. As ever.

I suggest you watch the game if you can CPM then you can make your mind up

The reason people have been posting criticising wane is because hes calling widnes cheats when they are not,simple really

The only incident I can recall (after watching the video) was when Mellor went down, O'Carroll came steaming in and the Widnes players were having a go at the referee. Mellor was hardly touched and made a meal of it. The referee obviously saw it, called Mellor to him and gave Wigan the penalty.

From Wane's pov I don't think there was any need for him to go public. I don't want him getting like Nathan Brown was at Saints.

Mellor tried to com the ref once from what I saw but only Eamon O'Carroll actually fell for it (well and the Widnes crowd but as I said in the night- I'm sure they were trying to break the world moaning record to go on top of the other record they set earlier in the day).

Wane needs to stop running his mouth off IMO. He's feeding people with snippets that they then make more of. The players are getting suckered in to niggly push and shove matches all over the place at the moment and it's stemming from Wane IMO.

We need to get back to being the aggressive side who played with cool heads that we were for Maguires time and the vast majority of Wanes.

If he says it then he must back it up, or it ends up just being an opinion. and if you think they didn’t, then without proof then that’s just your opinion too. They can say he’s wrong in saying it, but I can’t see how they can prove him wrong. Anyway how many times has a player been wrongly awarded a try when he knows it wasn’t? From a forward pass say, or a bit of a knock on, or gained advantage by getting away with a ball steal, or even a sly chops rattler that wasn’t spotted by the officials. All of which I accept would never happen at Saints; but still wouldn’t you call that cheating? If it’s your team that gets away with it you don’t criticise it, you justify it by saying “they all do it”. And if that’s the case we’re all hypocrites! Mellor was guilty of a bit of play acting. We've seen it before though. We've seen it several times from Sam Tomkins, a player Wane coached for many years, so he's being incredibly hypocritical. Wane's problem is he seems to talk and act like a biased fan. Most coaches seem to have the common sense to think about what they are saying and how it might be viewed. Shaun Wane doesn't seem to care. Sometimes that might be a good thing, but on many occasions it's made him look daft or arrogant.

I thought SW was absolutely spot on in his press conference, he praised Widnes, was pretty balanced in his assessment of Wigan and called some of the antics as he saw them, surely some honesty is what we want as opposed to the usual meaningless platitudes. Mellor, Hanbury and Phelps were at Child's all night recognising that he is a weak referee. As well as Mellor you had the Widnes acting half tripping over Larne Patrick and milking and getting a penalty - they tried the same tactic in the first half and got away with it. The most disappointing aspect is that we didn't recognise this ourselves.

People posting off topic Stains/Wigan bilge will lose their posting rights very quickly on here this season. Nearly everyone else is completely fed-up of reading the same people derailing threads. Grow up.

I don't really understand why Wane has felt the need to say this? When a coach speaks out about a certain issue there's a clear motive behind it and it's often calculated. Brown did it last season after our game at the DW and there was a clear reason why he brought it up. It ultimately worked from saints PoV.

Unless he's trying to con the siege mentality 'everyone is against us' rubbish that Mourinho has started this season?

It's his opinion and he's entitled to it. Might not have everyone agreeing with him but that's what you get with such a honest coach. Could be he's been a little bit naive and isn't as practised in the dark arts as some of our neighbours obviously are but he'll do for me.

That's just what I thought. And you really wouldn't go down the route of following that charmless individual.

I remember when ET, John Kear, said watching Wigan was like watching paint dry after his team got slammed at the DW and I think Wane said he went down in his estimation after that. I think Denis Betts may look at this in the same light. It is just bitterness.

I really do like Wane. He is passionate, loves his rugby and has done an outstanding job bringing the young lads through - he simply needs to shut up and use his brain a bit.

I don't understand why you aimed at it me though seeing as I didn't give an opinion as to whether I thought it was cheating or not or whether Wane should or shouldn't have made the comments he did.

I haven't made a mountain of anything at all; you have got this one wrong. I was talking to another poster, there were no problems at all and then you piped up and started talking about high horses and bandwagons.
