I seem to remember when Noble was appointed shortly after the press mentioned his name being linked to wigan and his reply was something along the lines of he was glad he was never officially approached as he would have found it too dificult to turn down.
Regards Wales i think although he clearly has been a major influence people neglect the impact Warren Gatland has had and his ability,
People like Gatland surround themselves with quality people and that in turn makes them look better and there job easier.
Much of the skill of a coach in my opinion is down to the ability to select there support staff and surround themselves with quality support.

| When we spoke to Offiah last year at an evening dinner, Offiah told us Edwards is not far away from him near Chiswick, and Edwards is settled there and will be for the future because of the contact with his son.

| I don't think it's any coincidence that where Edwards has been 'successful' Gatland has been the head coach. Gatland is the mastermind. Edwards is good and if Noble did leave he would be my preferred choice as a replacement but lets not overstate his achievements in RU.

| It's too big a risk for me, swapping one of the most successful coach in SL for a bloke who hasn't been involved in RL for years seems madness on paper. We've only lost a few games, no need for sweeping changes in my opinion.

Totally agree, if Edwards was going to come I would much prefer it to be at the start of pre season so he could get to know the squad and the staff around him.

| I had to laugh last night when one of the Welsh players was being interviewed.
Interviewer " There's a lot of singing coming from your dressing room"
Welsh player "It's the old Shaun Edwards classic, Saturday Night at the Movies"
It took me back to the Challenge Cup homecomings at Central Park.

Noble [iwas[/i one of the most successful coaches. Past tense. Games aren't won on paper either. I'd swap Noble for Edwards in a heart beat.

It's over two seasons of dross not two games. I am rapidly coming to the opinion any other coach in SL or NL1 could get us playing better RL with the team we have got. If we don't show more than one man RL this Friday then regardless of the result it won't be good enough IMO.
Doubt we could get Edwards if Noble went at this time but I would think if he did come we would see an instant change in the style of play and isn't that what is required? Results would then follow IMO.

are you serious....how is that silly??!?! I think if the majority of wigan fans (inc. leneghan) thought we could actually get edwards at this moment in time noble would be out before you could say Shaun Edwards!!
Edwards was a playing visionary, and has taken his knowledge of the game of rugby to further levels in rugby union, he has 1000 times more ideas than noble, is a top class motivator, and a true disiplinarian.....
I dont buy all this cr@p that he hasnt coached RL so would struggle.....coaching RL would be a doddle for him now, which he would excell at!! Hes one of the top RU coaches, despite it being a foreign discipline and a code of rugby he didnt even understand 10 years ago!!....if he were to come back to RL he could be a top 5 coach in his sleep!!

| There's no relegation so we have nothing to lose if a new coach came in. Since Millward came in I haven't seen half as much of the good attacking rugby we used to play at the JJB!
BRING BACK EDWARDS, GET SOME OFFENSIVE MOVES!

Firstly from what I have heard, IL isn't the greatest judge of RL talent.........
Secondly, Edwards is untried as an RL coach. I'm not saying he would fail, in fact I personally think he would bring a lot to the table.
What I am saying is that to gamble on him vs the most successful coach in the history of SL is madness.

Yes he captained England at junior level in RU as well as captaining GB at junior level in RL.
However are you suggesting RU isn't a foreign code to him because he played the game before he signed for Wigan aged 17 and so his knowledge of RU from about 25 years ago is relevant to his current job in RU?
If so I am sure his RL knowledge picked up about the same time would make the transition back again seamless

| Don't get me wrong, I think Edwards will make a great RL coach (probably).
I also think that:
a. He is unlikely to do it
b. Coming back NOW to coach Wigan would be a mistake
c. He would not be better than Noble at this moment in time for Wigan.

I'm not suggesting anything, I was asking a question that I already knew the answer to. I certainly wasn't suggesting Edwards would be the right choice at this moment in time to take over from Nobby if it came to it. A successful transition like that is too simplistic. I don't doubt that Edwards has ever stopped studying other sports, RU included, just as I'm certain he's never stopped studying the changes in RL since his departure. The basic structure of both games hasn't actually changed over the years, the execution has but the basic structure hasn't and I'm sure he'd bring along certain aspects that may improve an RL team just as he seems to have done in his time in RU with what he learned in RL. Now's not his time.
