you've just been told it was because there was intelligence indicating that some fans were going to bring in spray paints - therefore every right to search and good job too as paint was found. Give up - you've clearly attracted a yob element to your support....very disappointing.

| I saw the young lad get thrown out before the game. He was in floods of tears and the stewarding did seem heavy handed. However, I did see him prior to this, stood up on the barriers leading your singing. The same lad also was walking to the ground with his face covered with a scarf.
I really do love the concept of the Brigantes but I do wonder why you are allowing such young lads to be part of your group. I personally find it very odd that you would arrange to meet up with lads of his age (he’s 15).
Someone complained about the till rolls on the Brigantes facebook page and they were slapped down, being told these aren’t illegal. If you want all fans to be part of this you need to empower them and listen to all their views.
I think it’s great the club are backing the Brigantes but I don’t think you lot are doing yourselves any favours, covering your faces. This is very intimidating, regardless of how you laugh it off. If I was walking to the DW with my wife and saw a group of Warrington or Saints fans doing this I would feel very uncomfortable and for me this goes against what Rugby League fans are about.
If you want to be a credible group, would like it to grow and gain recognition for your efforts of improving the atmosphere you really now need to start considering the way you are perceived to others. Not shout them down or blame stewards for a child being evicted. Like I said before, if you want 15 year old children in your group you need to have a duty of care and look after them, not one of you went with when he was evicted and just left him in his distressed state to catch the train. Luckily for him, his Grandad was there and gave him train fare money. A group who behaves like this is something I will not want to be a part of! His Grandad also thanked the Police officer involved for his assistance.

Perhaps if they'd let them take the bloody flags in in the 1st place, there would have been no desire from any fans to take spray paint to make banners in the ground!

We didnt take any spray paint what so ever, the spray paint that was taken off people at the turnstile was a group of young lads that had all spray painted there hair red, it was hair spray not "graffiti" spray paint.

So would you, or whoever it was, cover your face on cold days whilst out shopping? I was there too and it wasn't exactly Baltic.
It does look intimidating IMO and I assume many many others agree, which is a shame as the whole flags/atmosphere things is great and doesn't need that image.
The way I see it, for what it's worth is either:
1. You actually quite like the image. If so, fine. Just say so.
2. You don't care what image it gives you or the group. Again fine, just say so.
3. You genuinely don't think it looks intimidating. Like a previous poster said though, if I saw a wire fan like that it would give off a certain image of him, whether rightly or wrongly. Basically looks like the chavs from riots last year.
Folk are obviously entitled to wear what they like however they like. Just a shame for image of a good group, both brigantes and Wigan RLFC generally.

I was with this group all day and can honestly say, hand on heart I never once saw anyone with a scarf over their face, if anyone did, it must have literally been for a minute and it must of been one person out of the entire group. If I remember correctly, only 3 or 4 people out of the group of around 40-50 had scarves on anyway. I appreciate your comments and will make sure that it is stopped in future games but I really didnt see it.

| I've just had a read through this thread and just want to add a bit from a Saints perspective. The stewarding has been bit over zealous so far this season and i've witnessed our own fans thrown out for things that regularly happened at KR. I can only presume it's down to it being a new stadium and a newly awarded safety certificate and as such they're keen to stay on the right side of things. This will no doubt ease up over time and something i'd perhaps expect to see at any new stadium.
Not an anti Wigan thing I don't think because when Hull came the other week I saw a similar presence (police & Stewarding) and we'll no doubt see the same thing when Wire come to Langtree.

Thanks for your comments, I am sure you are right.
It seems clear to me from what Bigredwarrior said that it was the stewards directing the police to enforce their ground policy that was ott.
For clarity, I do not condone people throwing toilet rolls as that is clearly not on.
My only point is that throwing a 15 year old lad out for throwing 1 toilet roll is OTT. I would have no problem if the lad had got a severe bollocking. But he missed the first derby game at Langtree (and we won!! )

| On first hearing I thought it was harsh. Then I read about wakey & cas chucking plastic glasses at each other. Probably no more likely to cause injury than a bog roll. In the long term it's probably best that it gets through to people that throwing stuff in rugby grounds isn't really on, even though I do have some sympathy for the lad they made an example of.

| I wasn't there at the game (I was in Turkey) but the fact that a 15 year old lad (who I know quite well) was kicked out for throwing some bog roll that didn't cause any harm, due to it reaching the pitch is WAY beyond me.
On another note, I've stood with the Brigantes for the majority of this season, home and away, and I can honestly say no trouble has been caused that has meant anybody being thrown out. We sing, we wave flags, we jump up and down and that's it. No violence or anything.

One of the clubs concerns (I was told) was that due to the banner ban, "some" fans would make them on the day, at the ground.

I know you didnt, sorry I wasn't directing the quote at you personally.
There's no way we could make a banner on the day, there's not enough room, too much security and nowhere near enough time or the facilities. Each display this season has taken at least 8 hours to design and paint and thats with around 10 people doing it.

First things first, who the hell are you telling anyne on here to be quiet. We are all allowed our opinion and trying to shove yours down everyones throat is part of the problem.
They were not bog rolls, they were till rolls. If one had hit someone on the head it could do a lot of damage and for that I would have the culprit banned for life.
The Brigantes seem to be perceived as a slightly more aggressive or perhaps passionate group of fans. If this is not the image that you want to have, then you need to modify your behaviour, the power to do so is yours alone.
We all love our Rugby League but if I see any of this type of behaviour from ANY fans, ours or opposing. I will have no problem with reporting them to the police and following up with speaking to the club to get them banned.
Personally I will not stand by and watch anyone ruin our game and turn it into the dangerous and intimidating world like football. And I am not saying that the Brigantes have this in mind, but there is an element of supporters who are getting us a bad name.
If you see it, I urge everyone to report it, even if it is a member of your own group of freinds and only then will we see who has the right idea's and all of our best interest at heart.
Last year there were some young lads throwing from the back of the stand at Castleford into our own crowd. A golf ball floored an elderly lady on the way out. I don't know who they are but it seems that a growing number of young lads think they are untouchable and can intimidate everyone with bad behaviour.
Be Warned, if you are one of this type, you will get your just deserts, one way or another.

You mean the same group that formed in 2009 and haven't had one arrest since forming? That have a fantastic friendship with the club and are in constant contact with the club? The same group that banned one of there own mates from travelling on there coach to away games because he used spray paint at a home fixture and nearly had the group finished? The same group that gave money to charity....I could go on but I wont bother, before you come on here writing essays like a spokeperson from Wigan RLFC, get your facts right and do some research.
