Quote ="Aboveusonlypie"We had an injury crisis last season but managed to grind out narrow victories. It hasn't happened this year. The defence was shambolic against Cas, with the McMeekin try almost unbelievable. The attack looks clueless at times. There is no organisation and precious little will to win.
We need Sam Tomkins back. His leadership is needed. Escare's kicking is causing him to lose confidence and he has been poor in the last two games.
The defence has to improve. It looks as though we have become complacent since Cronulla.
However there is time to put this right. I'm expecting defeat on Friday. But we will still be close to the top 4.
I have to admit that Cas were good and deservedly favourites for the GF. No one will write Wigan off yet though.'"
I disagree with a lot of this. We only started to grind out wins after we were humiliated at Wakey. This season, after Cronulla, we got the win away at Widnes despite all the upheaval that week. We nilled Leigh and got up for Warrington away and won. During those weeks, we had a relatively strong side and our attack looked very fluent. Then we lost a few more players and played Huddersfield with 2 subs for 72 mins but got the draw. We looked too thinly spread to expect a win away at Leeds and lost Gildart who'd been playing great rugby. We played Cas with 12 players missing and they hammered us! We then got Budgie and MM back and beat Saints Wakey and Catalan despite suffering more injuries. The result against Cas was inevitable in my view and we go into this week against Salford with 14 players missing. I fear a similar thumping if I'm honest!
Despite all that, the circumstances with injuries are without doubt the major contributor in our form and I have no doubt that should we get a bit of luck with injuries, the slick attack that we saw in the early games will come back.
