I don't really see how you can blame Mac for this particular injury on the basis of such sketchy information. I would think pre-season training sessions need to reach a certain level of intensity to be worthwhile, and if they don't you risk starting the season undercooked.

I think we've had more wins than defeats over the first six games or so in every one of Mac's three full seasons as head coach, which suggests to me he's got a tried and tested routine in place for pre-season. If there is a problem with flogging players I reckon it's more likely to be with training too hard over the second half of the season, when many players are likely to be carriying niggling injuries and suffering from fatigue.

No of course it's not Mac's fault. It never is.

As I recall, David Howell was injured in training - at the time probably worse than this and not Mac's fault.
And you do get flogged in pre-season, that's generally why there is one - during the season there's little opportunity for long bouts of fitness work, although that's not to say you should be injured doing it.

The team have to do something in the pre season build up, team building combined with fitness is part of it, I agree that Rob being injured at the start of the season or any part of the season is not good, but hey we have to live with it!
Will be interesting to hear what the expectations for the coming season are stated as this year at the forum 2moro night, sadly am working now so cant get there.
A bit of honesty would be good, we are highly highly unlikely to be competing for SL honours! Challenge cup is hit and miss all depending on the draw. So honest expectations for the season, lets win more than we lose, lets try and make top 8 if not top 6 and at least get through first rounds of play offs

I have to go along with what a few others here have said, and wonder is this one injury to many for Purds. If its the same shoulder he has done a couple of times in the past you have to worry.

My concern is the quote from the Club "We are seeking medical advice at present and an announcement will be made later this week,".

We all know Rob would turn up and play covered head to foot in plaster if he's able to,but even he must think how many more times can i keep coming back from injuries.

You're quoting me out of context. Why didn't you include my comment that perhaps we were continuing to train too hard once the season was in full swing?

This injury happened in pre-season, and past evidence suggests that our pre-season programme has worked well and given us a good foundation on which to build, even if ultimately we've failed to capitalise on it. Slipping over and landing heavily (as described by Rob in the linked Sporting Life article) is something that could happen anywhere, especially in a match, or even in the street in the recent weather conditions we've had. Yet apparently this accident was Mac's fault!
