CAPITAL CHALLENGE TO RETURN ON 20 JANUARY
The sixth Annual Rugby League Capital Challenge between Harlequins v London Skolars has been confirmed for the 20 January 2009. The game will again be played at the Honourable Artillery Company’s Artillery Gardens ground in the heart of the City of London.
Last year’s game was a first for the City of London and attracted curious City workers who used their lunchtime to attend the spectacle, following a hugely successful business luncheon for sponsors and decision-makers in the city. There was also unprecedented media interest with camera crews from Sky Sports and the BBC and a record number of press for a Skolars event.
The game will again be held on the same day as the Rugby League All Parliamentary Committee annual dinner later that evening. Many of the MPs who are members of the committee will be in attendance at the match as Skolars take on the might of Super League side Quins RL.
Sponsors ETF Securities Ltd will again be supporting the event and will host a ‘Commodities Investors Day’ for their customers.
“Last year’s Capital Challenge game was a top class event and a first for Rugby League and the City,” explained Skolars GM Ben Araud. “We had a full house at the HAC ground which is a hidden gem in the financial district. We expect to build on the day and expand the entertainment and as a result we expect another capacity ground. I would advise all fans to get on board and book their tickets early as the event sold out within weeks of the tickets going on sale.”
Tickets are priced £15 for adults and £10 concessions. Last year, Quins brought a full strength squad including half a dozen international stars, much to the delight of the crowd, many of whom had never seen top class rugby league up close and personal. Spectators are literally within touching distance of the players at the Artillery Ground, making the Capital Challenge a unique experience in elite professional rugby.
