| Rather ironic really, since up until his suicide ball Chad Randall was comfortably the best player on the park, particularly in the second half he was killing Wigan up the middle.
Luke Dorn was utterly anonymous. All this guff about whether he's a strike player/organiser/better or worse than Scott Hill is going to be completely irrelevant if he doesn't step up on the bigger games. Personally I thought he was a passenger.
We seemed to lose a lot of impetus when Robinson went off, and I thought we missed a couple of very kickable conversions which mentally could have made a big difference.
As mentioned before - reasonable first 40 but coughed up too much posession. Second try was fortuitious to say the least. Second half was just pure self destruction. Wigan were poor, we were worse. Thought Melling and Wells were decent but aside from that everyone else needs to seriously work on their game because we didn't seem very cohesive for much of the match.
Oh, and I hate to harp on about it but [istill[/i clueless on the last tackle.

| Did We once get the ball in the in goal area on the last tackle? If Big mac watches that game again he will see a few half cocked ideas on the last tackle and at a time when the pies were there for the taking IMO.

| Another concern I have is our right side defence. It's been opened up repeatedly in the last 2 games.

| As a neutral I thought it was a good game to watch. Wigan was there fore the beating for most of the match inspite of them having a try gifted by the ref (boy was that a double movement!). So at worst it should have been a draw, had the ref had more brains on the night, but alas the real problem was Chad Randall. I don't know what the man was thinking of because he had been the hero until that point. Had he not passed the ball at that moment I think the game was yours. It certainly looked like it should have been.
I reckon, though, that the skill was all yours. The tries and that beautiful 40/20. Much better than what Wigan offered. Such a shame about that pass by Randall. He'll be kicking himself for a long time yet I should imagine. I hope he simply learns from it and doesn't let it get to him (other than to make sure he never does anything so daft again!).
But I wouldn't lose heart. There's no reason at all to believe that your season this year will be like last year's. None at all. Quins had grit, determination and skill out there. It was only your second league match and there is plenty of time to go.
And if the newbies in the stands enjoyed the match half as much as I did then they will be back, regardless of the fact that you lost this time.

| The Rugby Union was on, that's probably why.
Wigan numbers matched the home support tonight & putting all the Quins supporters in one stand was a bad move IMO, the amount of support from the home supporters was shocking.

| I thought the ref had a decent game last night. I had my reservations having seen him ref before but thought he let the game flow.
Could he have penalised Wigan for lieing(is that a word!) on- Possible but all in all a decent performance.

Me as well. Very few penalties and it made for a much more entertaining game. There's nothing worse than referees constantly stopping the game through technical pens.

| I could not understand the early posts on the thread showing such encouragement in the attendance? - okay Union was on TV bit if Any new supporters did attend then it means even some of the old faithful dtayed at home.
It was a game we had the opportunity to win, it would have done us a world of good PR wise, but no, IL got the result He wanted !!!!!! to rescue him and Mr Noble.

| Typical second half showing really. The amount of ball and field position we had in the first half was incredible, and Wigan looked inept, but same old problem, we can't convert territory and pressure into sufficient points. Positives - Jon Wells had another good game, Will Sharp looked, erm, sharp. And Chris Warren was back on the PA after the embarrassment of the guy v Manly.
I disagree with the Wigan supporter about the "shocking" support that we gave Quins - I think there was an excellent volume of singing and support for most of the game. Unless the Wigan supporter is talking about the NUMBER of our support as opposed to the loudness of our support....

The number of support is what I was aiming at.
I can't comment on the volume but both at the game and on Sky, the Wigan support clearly the loudest.

| I bloody hope McDermott has them running up Richmond Hill right now. Im still furious after losing last night.
I hope we can turn things around for the Reds on Fri. Last night was not good enough. Period
We now have Salford away and Wire home to come. We should be looking for 4 points from these. If you're going to come out with statements like we will win SL, be more consistent......then back it up.

The only time people just turned up because someone built a ground was that Kevin Costner movie. Everyone else has to rely on promotion to get bums on seats - so if we don't promote, we... etc etc etc

| OK i have waited until the red mist has cleared and had a good? nights sleep to get my head clear and while I think a more thoughtful response is now more likely with less expletitives I am still fuming at our 'naivity'.
BM highlighted our poor decision making at key moments as the major reason for missing the playoffs last season get a 10% improvement and we would have made it he said. Well if he's been working on it with them, it certainly hasn't sunk in. First half what the .... was Howell doing trying to pass that ball on Wigans right 20 metre touchline when he was surrounded by Wigan players and not having good control of the ball. Chances of losing it 90% imo and if a Quins player got it he had no where to go! NO NEED TO PASS
Second half we are attacking down their right side Gafa (i think) runs towards the right touchline which is well covered by Wigan defenders and a nothing play in no space and gets dragged into touch????? posession lost!
Randall's moment of madness. Its already been said. Stevo said he will just have to learn from his mistake. FFS he is one of our most experienced players and it was Chad who did the same thing at MM when we threw it away with one of his unnecessary long and again sadly inaccurate passes in front of the Catalans defense which resulted in a runaway try when holding on to the ball and keeping them pinned on their 25 would win it!
Our decision making at key moments by players in posession was poor and this game should have been won in the first half. We were on the TV so had an important audience to perform to. A lot of newbie coming for the first time and a chance for the team to show that we were the real deal this season and ensure a few good crowds in the next few home games. It felt like the Saints game on our return to the Stoop.
On the positive side I felt we were good at driving the ball forward and getting into the opposing half with our 6 tackles which means we get to a position to score tries, and we did create opportunities.
Robinson in the side makes us stronger and with Williamson playing as well we will be difficult to beat if we can cut down on the moments of madness. Randall is still one of the best hookers around and leads the team well. Orr looks better without Hill in the team and is more clear about his role IMO.
Any new visitors would have found it exciting and a close game is good for speccies though not for our own fans if we lose it.
A huge opportunity lost imo interms of getting the team on a roll getting some momentum at the start of the season and getting the crowds in. All is not lost but it is clear that the loss of a few key players will have an impact on this tea.

| Bloody good game that was.
Good reffing game, shame about one or two decisions but can get over that.
Good forward battle, pretty even game.
Great advert for SL.
