| DELUSIONAL POST FROM TOTAL RL
Quote The Daddy
At some point during the season we were faced with the threat of relegation and I really thought the club was dying a slow death, the fans we're losing hope.
Since Mike Eccles has taken over the performances have improved considerably. They've not been perfect but standards have improved and the fans are now awaiting announcements of the club's plans for next season. That includes the decision as to whether Mike Eccles will become the permanent head coach and the backroom staff structure for 2023. What's of major importance now is that the club makes some good, ambitious signings, beefs up the pack and shows the fans that they mean business.
The club has also recently appointed a new head of commercial Mark Kemp which is a good sign, the appointment shows ambition and adds expertise into the back office. I hope we see the benefits of it next season coz there is some indication already of improvement in the way that the club is being run.
Altogether the move to Wimbledon has worked out well but clearly the team, results and performances need to match the quality of the stadium, but generally speaking Plough Lane is a step up from what we've had in recent years it's been a much needed move.
The great thing to hear as a fan is that the club has stated it's aim is to return to SL a huge relief when you consider how poorly the season started '"
THIS ^^^^^^^^^ IS THE TYPE OF FAN HUGHES CRAVES^^^^^^^ the sort of idiot who will pay £20 to massage Hughes ego next week at the One Club event.......we always were "one club"...it wasn't us fans who forgot that!

| Quote ="Kelvin's Ferret"It's no good comparing us to Leigh, they had three international wingers in their team today, yes they were all well past their prime and wouldn't be anywhere near a top SL side, but there is a level of investment in the Leigh side that no other Championship side can match (maybe Fev can come close). RL isn't like some other sports e.g. football, where a plucky underdog can hold off a much better team, the nature of the game means that semi-pro sides just can't compete with fully pro sides unless there's something very wrong with the fully pro team. They rolled over us because they were bigger and stronger and they can play consistently at a higher tempo. It's not a disgrace to be beaten when it's such a mismatch.
At the start of the season London were a shambles, the last tackle play, if it ever came, was for Moceidreke to hoof it randomly in the air. But with a few key signings in the spine we now attempt some half decent plays, yes we are one dimensional, and yes we lack true quality, but there is competency, shape, structure and patterns, even if there's no plan B, C, D etc...there is at least something resembling plan A, and that makes us competitive against most teams in this division.
I've given up on the myth of 'sustainability', I don't worry about the magical 5k average (I remember hearing this direct from Nic Cartwright's mouth in the bar at The Stoop in 2006), we need to be competitive in this division, and play some attractive RL that will appeal to RL fans in the South East catchment area. Barring a game or two a season I pretty much gave up when we moved to the Hive, and I thought I'd made a mistake coming back this season, but I've enjoyed what I've seen in the second half of the season. We want people seeing competitive, entertaining games, don't worry about SL. If I were the club I'd flood the local area with £5 ticket deals for the Barrow game, we can play entertaining stuff, even if it's not technically great.'"
In many respects, I don't diagree but the club needs to decide what it is aiming for.
Is it 5,000 fans in a big new stadium (which means being competitive in SL) or or are they happy to exist mid table in the Championship with 3 digit crowds (in which case they are burning cash with the current facilities). Announcements for next season will reveal which it is and I suspect the latter.

| Quote ="northernbloke"Second London try disallowed correctly but with one of those odd laws of the game, had that been given reckon it was a different game.
Leigh were not that special today, london were poor! Todays Leigh squad will lose its core of overseas players, they will struggle next year as cannot see where they are going to recruit from.
But, some poor execution from London today, dropped ball and dumb last set play. No doubt we would have still lost but by a much better score line and some pride'"
After securing the championship title last week, Leigh put in a training session and still got 50.

So what? Leigh rolled over a part-time team using their full-time team stuffed with overseas players. They will get murdered in SL every week unless they find about 8 UK players of SL standard. But Leigh fans are generally a good laugh, I'm looking forward to seeing them again in 2024.

Well just to fill you in, Leigh have already signed Superleague players for next season, whether we are in Superleague or not.

Maybe but, franchise is coming,so you can enjoy your time outside of the elite for quite some time.
BTW - I believe you don't have any trophies next to your wooden spoons.

| If franchising is coming, it will surely bypass Leigh. You add no credibility to the competition unlike say Toulouse or a properly funded & run London. There is no future for RL just in the north as most clubs will be broke before the "Powerhouse" effect gets going, if it ever does. Admire your optimism though.

Admire your spirit Cokey. Top trolling. However, you’ve gone down a blind alley here. The idea behind franchising is it unfairly discriminates against areas of rich rugby league history but little national ‘reach’, like Leigh, in favour of places like London. So in that scenario it would be London that had a good payday not Leigh. In fact it may be one of the only ways we can get back into SL unless we get our act together. Anyway I bear no grudge if you can’t have a pop when you’re on the up when can you. I think you’ll do OK next year:your recruitment approach seems sensible. Mind you it’s not easy to stay up as Wakefield have enough about them to just get over the line but we’ll see.

| Guys we have enough issues without getting into a spat with Leigh. Our only focus will be in whether we have a team next year who will be mid table or in the relegation spots.
RL as a sport is in massive decline, and will continue while its stuck in the M62 corridor, Sky will find better area's to spend there money on, and between cricket, football and F1, all your going to see on SKY in the coming years is US sport which is cheap for Sky to show.
Lets stop this thread, let Leigh enjoy their promotion season, I really don't care how they get on in SL, as I give SL less than 5 years to survive as it is now, unless they break out of a small section of the country (and no I am not saying London should be given a franchise, I would not give DH control of my neices under 8 girls netball team)

As for licencing. If IMG decide to head down that route, don't be stunned if London are somehow a requirement.....your benefactor made a big point of Leigh bringing 1,000 away fans to games.....the reality is that's about £40,000 in REVENUE per host team......PER SEASON.....I hope IMG aren't into such simplistic maths and things like geographical reach and railway stations matter

| Just read it Crash - a fair assessment. Grim reading but it is what it is. In fairness consensus fell in with you. Which is a bit sad but for reasons gone into ad nauseum it’s not been great this year. It might be that the daddy had got himself into a positive mood at lunchtime and forgot that the move can’t really be described as a success on any metric. It happens. Monday is, I understand, the new Friday.

| For information only: LSV is very easy and quick to get to.
Train to Manchester, train to Atherton (formerly part of Leigh), 10 minute (582) bus ride straight to Leigh bus station, cockstride to a great stadium.
Otherwise; train to Manchester, V1 bus (every 10 minutes, plush leatherette seats, WIFI, USB chargers, dedicated bus lane all the way through Salford to sail through any traffic, limited stopping, then (from the Salford border) the guided bus way (no cars bikes or trucks, lights automatically change in favour of the bus at crossroads as the transponder gets into range)) into Leigh bus station.
What's more, from next week the V1 will be two quid a trip.
The most arduous part of a Londoner's journey would be getting to Euston through traffic on a clapped out Routemaster or finding a tube train that didn't wait underground for an age. Missed many an APEXed train for that reason when working in The Smoke!
Point is that Leigh's lack of a train station is no obstacle and a non-argument.

Don't get me wrong. The game neds more blokes like your owner who assuredly wear their hearts on their sleeves, but it's very simplistic to say that 1,000 away fans benefits SL more than having a side like Toulouse in the competition.
I estimated 10 years ago that it was £4,000,000 turn over at a SL club to stand a chance of breaking even......I'd hazard a guess that figure is now £5,000,000 and if £40,000 from Leigh as opposed to £0,000 from Toulouse is the deal breaker, then the deal needs to be looked at....because each club needs to be generating £3,200,000 AFTER SKY money to break even and 1.25% of that shouldn't be the kicker.
Del the Deckbuilder will be throwing a million + at the club next year and you'll average 6/7k....piled up with sponsors and corporates, I reckon you'll be turning over close to £4.5 million......I reckon that's what clubs like Wakefield, Salford, Huddersfield and HKR operate with, so recruitment will be key for you guys.
Meanwhile, IMG need to sort London out and stage 1 is find a way to remove Hughes........

Almost certainly true Bongser but as it’s given so many so much pleasure over the years it seems churlish to let the facts get in the way. Just out of interest why don’t you have a train station. Is it a Beeching thing?
