| Disappointing. We should have been 12+ ahead by the time Randall threw that silly pass. Wigan look a poor and unbalanced side, especially with Riddell on the field - which is a worry for me as I have a season-long bet on them to finish 5th or better.
Never mind. It was always going to be tough with only 15 men available for so long. Plus points: excellent kick returns from the back 3, good yards from LMS, Clubb and Heckenberg. Robinson looked quality until injury. Worries: Dorn, Orr and Randall look like they are still getting used to each other. Purdham playing through pain again.
Overall outlook remains encouraging IMO.

| I dont want to harp on about the size of the crowd but less than 4000 for a game against wigan is very bad this should have been marketed better last year you got 8000 for this fixture which is 4000 down, you cant blame the other code and iv just checked some stats and its the 3 lowest crowd against wigan in SL.

| Moving to only one stand was a big mistake and will impact on those who have attended the Stoop last year. How many season ticket holders did not renew due to moving to the east stand, or for that matter, how many did not renew at all?
I know that many a debate has been had with regard closure of the Lexus which I believe was to do with TV. But last night on the big screen there was a number of shots of the empty lexus stand and the two ends. Result, empty looking ground.
The view in the East stand from the lower rows is poor, and worse, sitting in AH section and the Jesters there is the awful smell of fat frying and diesel fumes. Not good for your health over the duration of a game. Would I go again if I had to sit in that area? No, not if it was my first game last night and deciding whether to return for a latter game. I would be looking for other more suitable areas to sit but what is the choice for the walk up last minute punter?
Set against this is last week, when there both lexus and East stands were open and more choice to sit. I would go further and suggest last week was was a free for all and you could sit anywhere you liked regardless of which ticket had been bought. I had a ticket for the East stand took one look and moved to the Lexus (along with dozens of others). Result more choice, could sit with mates, enjoyed the game, come back next week.
Over the two weeks the match experience, with regards to seating for the walk up punter was poor, next week watch the telly.

| Quote ="Snoopy"OK i have waited until the red mist has cleared and had a good? nights sleep to get my head clear and while I think a more thoughtful response is now more likely with less expletitives I am still fuming at our 'naivity'.
BM highlighted our poor decision making at key moments as the major reason for missing the playoffs last season get a 10% improvement and we would have made it he said. Well if he's been working on it with them, it certainly hasn't sunk in. First half what the .... was Howell doing trying to pass that ball on Wigans right 20 metre touchline when he was surrounded by Wigan players and not having good control of the ball. Chances of losing it 90% imo and if a Quins player got it he had no where to go! NO NEED TO PASS
Second half we are attacking down their right side Gafa (i think) runs towards the right touchline which is well covered by Wigan defenders and a nothing play in no space and gets dragged into touch????? posession lost!
Randall's moment of madness. Its already been said. Stevo said he will just have to learn from his mistake. FFS he is one of our most experienced players and it was Chad who did the same thing at MM when we threw it away with one of his unnecessary long and again sadly inaccurate passes in front of the Catalans defense which resulted in a runaway try when holding on to the ball and keeping them pinned on their 25 would win it!
Our decision making at key moments by players in posession was poor and this game should have been won in the first half. We were on the TV so had an important audience to perform to. A lot of newbie coming for the first time and a chance for the team to show that we were the real deal this season and ensure a few good crowds in the next few home games. It felt like the Saints game on our return to the Stoop.
On the positive side I felt we were good at driving the ball forward and getting into the opposing half with our 6 tackles which means we get to a position to score tries, and we did create opportunities.
Robinson in the side makes us stronger and with Williamson playing as well we will be difficult to beat if we can cut down on the moments of madness. Randall is still one of the best hookers around and leads the team well. Orr looks better without Hill in the team and is more clear about his role IMO.
Any new visitors would have found it exciting and a close game is good for speccies though not for our own fans if we lose it.
A huge opportunity lost imo interms of getting the team on a roll getting some momentum at the start of the season and getting the crowds in. All is not lost but it is clear that the loss of a few key players will have an impact on this tea.'"
Got it in a nutshell, only thing I can add is how important having a reliable goal kicker is - 3 misses that proved crucial. All the way home just kept thinking 'Catalans in Cardiff all over again'! No change and nil points!

| will write to the people involved in marketing this week and Mr Hughes and I am going to ask what they plan to do about the lack of suporters. Don't expect an answer and fully expect to be further ostracised, but if ANYONE WITH A BRAIN THINKS 3,800 IS ACCEPTABLE, they need removing from the club now!
Losses happen, but a 50% drop in gate year on year is unacceptable and heads must now roll.
Too angry to post facts and figures etc.....but his is the last wake up call.

Saturday RL up against London football watched by 131,000 people. Everyone of them is excluded from the potential of watching RL.
It was without doubt the No 1 concern that needed addressing and 0/10 for the efforts the club have made in addressing it
Pathetic !!

| Throw another one in, what about London RL amateur clubs training and playing games on Saturday afternoons? Kids who are interested in RL and their parents not able to turn up at the Stoop due to clash of interests.
Interesting figures from last year where season tickets were issued to local clubs but many not used. Clash of priorities perhaps? People cannot be in two places at once. London RL need to look at what clubs are doing and whether there is any potential to maximise opportunities for Quins and also Scholars’ to attract support.
Simple, do not allow games or training either Saturday of Sunday afternoons for junior players. Instead support a one of the professional clubs.

I did not renew my season tickets (2 adults, 2 children) because of the move to the East stand and the poor view from the front seats (have to sit there due to age of children). If the club are more concerned about tv appearance than the fans then that is their choice. I told them so when they called me.

| 3882 is terrible for our first home SL game of the season, and against Wigan. I thought atmosphere was good, but on TV seeing the 3/4 empty stands behind the posts looked quite bad.
with regards to the match, that is the worst I have felt leaving the stoop, We all expected so much form this game and afterwards I just felt so deflated because we should have taken the 2 points from this one. Yes Mellings pass at the end was silly but we should have been so much further ahead at the end that them scoring a try by then shouldn't have mattered.
On that showing we won't win Super League, but it is a long way to go, there were some good signs, the 40/20, the set pieces from scrums and the taking of high balls by the full backs were brilliant.
Let's hope we can rectify this by teaching Salford a lesson in RL next week.

the amateur season has not started yet so you can't blame that for the crap crowd and amateur rugby league has always been played on saturdays in London. why should over 20 junior and 30 senior clubs change from saturdays just because quins decide to move from sunday matches??

I have always feared the affect on attendances from moving back to the East stand. The West is so much better for most fans and the fans have now moved around to be near friends/groups they prefer. I am sure this had an impact but am unsure atm how much. However, If I remember correctly it was more of an instruction to move we got rather than the club deciding to make a choice, which makes it difficult to criticise the club. Noises about it saving us money were put out afterwards (which is a debatable point if you lose fans) but it was the Sky people who we were told wanted it at the begining.

| I am not saying that senior clubs should change from Saturday's at all or stop playing on a Saturday afternoon, since this is one of tradition and should not change. To do so would kill the game and be counterproductive to potential new talent.
My observation relates to junior rugby where parents have to take, or make arrangements to get the young'uns to games. Where junior teams play or train in the afternoon, Saturday or Sunday this could impact (and does - some clubs are training now) on those who would want to go and watch Quins or Scholars.
Result reduction of potential supporters for the professional clubs.
Many years ago I lived in the North, no junior games were played in the afternoons and those who wished went to watch the local professional club. I am just throwing out an observation for all parties trying to deliver an integrated approach for what is a brilliant game. The problem is support is fragmented or non-existent. This in one idea which should be considered, and who knows, may help to boast potential support for the professional clubs.

| As a neutral (although after three seasons of watching quins - becoming more biased) I felt it was a good exciting game. Quins still seem to struggle with the second half of games - something I thought you were overcoming last season. It was a game you should have won and really lost with only 5 mins remaining!
What on earth was going on with the kicking tee? Surely quins can afford more than one! Messing around with that caused the kick out on the full!
Regarding the game experience all in one stand I thought was rubbish. We were in the Jesters and to be honest found ourselves watching the big screen as the view to the North end of the pitch is pretty poor, far worse than in the LV stand. We were in the Jesters not out of choice, but because last week when we purchased tickets the only club seats they had available were near the front.
It's been said that Sky wanted everybody in one stand - well the tries on Sky looked really good against a background of three apparently empty stands! Opposing fans sitting opposite each other adds to the game atmosphere - something lost when you're all in one stand. And what was the bit of empty seating about between the two sets of fans - was someone expecting it all to kick off!
Will I keep coming and paying money to watch quins? I'll be there for the Warrington game and if the experience is as poor again then may not bother. Daftdads comments about walk ups is key. You want to be able to feel that when you struggle with the public transport system you should at least be able to get a decent seat in a ground that isn't exactly capacity.

Frankly I barely head the Wigan support last night (I was itting withing=n about three seats of the halfway line) and that's the smallest number of Wigan fans I've ever seen at one of our home games against you. You had about a quarter of those in the main stand at best, and those that were there never made a squeak except when you were in front.

The worrying thing is PP that even with that the crowd was embarrassingly poor. Its frankly no good describing any marketing initiative that has clearly failed as good.
3800 crowds against one of the major draws in the game will kill the club long before we need to worry about another franchise. You dread to think what the Wakefield or Salford crowds might be

| I think we can put some blame for the low crowd on TV. Both RU internatioanls were on and we were on Sky. It always causes a reduction in bums on seats when we're on sky. I hold my hand up here - 480 mile round trip or feet up on the sofa is no contest this weather!
And I think you'll find that our fixture with t'pies last year coincided with a kids tournament which our club organised, bringing in many schoolkids and hangers-on. it was also at a better time of year, weatherwise.
it's only the second game of a long season - come on faint-hearts be positive!!

Can someone explain to me why hasn't anyone jumped on daftdad's back with regards to this post? This is the type of post that people want censored on here. Spot on, but not what people want to read.
Disgraceful crowd (and no, I wasn't there), only saw second half which was disappointing and 2 points thrown away. No cutting edge, no direction, only thing that I think is going well are the forwards at the moment.
I can happily say I would rather have our pack than the shambles that Leeds put out tonight.

| A couple of points to all who are obviously disappointed:
1) if Randell had not thrown the pass for the interception and we had gone on to win would you all have jumpoed on here with the usual negatives - I think not! It would have been brilliant this and brilliant that etc.
Five miuntes earlier Randell put int he 40 - 20 that led to the try to take us in to the lead - you of short memories.
But ulitmately we throw it away.
2) less than 4000 crowd is very disappointing, but those spouting a lack of atmosphere must have to much ear wax. My wife, daughter and I sit in the top row of block AH and we thought the flags and atmosphere pretty good - the singing from L&L certainly drifted down the south end of the stand and many joined in.
Nobody seems to have mentioned the flags? Will you be bringing them to the next home game, those who waved them so boldly as we ran in to the lead and then got back on front?
Hopefully the club keep putting the out. Why not give the L&L section some extra large flags?
3) the person moaning about the chip fat needs to get a life. Their just fishing for a reason not to come in the future!
4) ultimately it was a good game between two pretty equally matched sides. Both packs cancelled each other out such was the commitment on both sides, though I would say ours marginly edged it (as for once we contained Palli.. a fat bucket or however it is spelt). As both packs struggled to get on top it meant the half backs on both sides struggled to set a pattern. Orr was certainly the pick of both sides halves. Dorn was as "missing" as Tim "probably paid far more" Smith.
5) Robinson showed up defensively but certainly didn't do much wth ball in hand, and I didn't see any lines of running aka Lee Hopkins. On the other hand Clubb - magnificant in the second row. I'd say that is his long term position - get him running out wide from deep on to the ball. Use Robinson / Williamson to teach him how to defend as a second row - to go with the raw power of his tackling and there is a regular international of the future. Clubb and Hock of Wigan showed up well. (I have a secret longing for Hock to play for us, some of his running and all action style would be great for us)
6) LMS again showed up well and gave Fielden a good run about. Keep it up LMS. His try showed good forward strength and awareness.
7) Ref - other then missing the double movement for Baileys try had a good game. Looking ahead it is good we finally supporting other aspects of the French game.
Overall disappointed we lost, we should have won. The game was a good and evenly matched - so much better than a 60 point drubbing (LEEDS - SKY , say no more)
9) I actually thought a full East Stand worked. Had we had a crowd like last season (circa 8000) then three sides of the ground would have been full - AND THAT WOULD HAVE LOOKED VERY GOOD.
The up shot though was the crowd was down 50% - MARKETING DEPARTMENT YOU MUST DO BETTER!!!!!!

well done for not reading any of the previous posts in this thread.
No-one's got on Randall's back - most of us have acknowledged he was our best player up until his brain fart. But it still probably cost us the game - should we forget about that then?
Quote I actually thought a full East Stand worked. Had we had a crowd like last season (circa 8000) then three sides of the ground would have been full - AND THAT WOULD HAVE LOOKED VERY GOOD.
The up shot though was the crowd was down 50% - MARKETING DEPARTMENT YOU MUST DO BETTER!!!!!!'"
But we didn't have the crowd like last season. So it didn't work.

| Quote ="Paddock Punter"And this from a bloke who wasn't there! I think you will find that there was a good marketing initiative for this game - ST holders able to bring 4 people @ £10 each. Bought 8 adults and 2 kids with me.
Still how many pints does that make it now GF (although I have to say I thought there were more than 4K there yesterday)'"
OK...I wsn't there. Sometimes I have to tow the line with the missus and as I was at an engagement bash for US, I might have been missed. Don't worry, once the second ring is on her finger, things will change (please don't tell her I said that )
The point is, anything under 4,000 is unacceptable. Last year we had 8,000 and yes that was with 2,000 odd ankle biters given addmission but if Wigan brought their usual 1,000+, where have the 2,000 others from last year gone
Pi55 poor attitude to marketing at the club. As has been mentioned before, a real "field of dreams" attitude has been in place since I started watching the club and guess what.....YOU BUILT IT AND THEY AREN'T COMING!
As for the pints, I believe I am 2 down and might have to start laying off bets to insure I don't give you alcoholic poisoning by week 6
