| Quote ="Halfdan of t'wide embrace"Unfortunately the kick off date / time will also take out a chunk of those who travel in from outside London. I'm looking at half a day off work realistically and I'm probably less than 30 miles away. Ludicrous but true given the trave scenario on Friday nights.
No complaints about the timing though. I understand there are issues and frankly a well marketed Friday night event could work in London. The well marketed bit is the key though.'"
Happy to stand corrected but the last well marketed game I can recall was one against Cas on a Friday night at the Stoop, wasn't there a cheap/ free ticket offer in the Standard?
I understand the difficulty some will have getting into Ealing on a Friday night, but I can't be the only one who works in town and could make it?
Think the club need to rethink ticket prices for this one, a tenner ought to do it.

| The marketing issue is always going to be a discussion point. Where do you market the game? We continue to go through this loop, target the locals always seem to be the theme! Why? What makes rugby league anymore appealing to the Ealing locals than anything else going on. Our fan base is much wider spread so who do you target? And where do you market?
Fri night is not ideal, yep travel is a challenge for lots of folk but folk find a way around like halfdan, I will be there and I am 90 odd miles away and working all day!
All those fans that walked away from years gone past are still there, they just don't bother coming anymore, the only marketing that will get them back is by us being back in Super League, a poster on a tube station wall is not going to convince them to come and watch again.

I'm one of the fans that walked, and it wasn't relegation from SL that caused it by a long shot! I walked because the club was run pathetically from top to bottom for years on end and I'd finally had enough of it - but that's all been done to death.
I went to a couple of games last season - mainly because my dad was missing live games (as I was truth be told) - and we've been to both HullKR and Bradford this season. I like what Henderson is doing on the pitch, and I don't just mean winning a few games, it's about players and staff being responsible for their performances and building something that's accountable. If only the same could be said of the club off the field! It's just as poorly run as ever, with the sole intention seemingly that the owner has a game of rugby to watch. I live in Ealing and the club has done absolutely nothing to make people aware of their existence, they honestly couldn't have a lower profile if they tried.
How embarrassing for all concerned that the Challenge Cup game will likely get half as many spectators as the Skolars achieved.

| If you go back as I do to the early days at Charlton, there were vouchers in The Sun giving entry for Five Pounds. I got quite a few to go on the back of that and they kept going until we moved to The Stoop. There was also the promotion which gave away a Ford Fiesta, one person a game got picked out and at the end of the season there was a thing where each pulled out a key and if it opened the door they were a winner. That got a few in.
We do not seem to have put that much effort in since those days.

I'm of a similar vintage, it would be good to see something, anything along these lines.
As well as local newspapers there's the Standard and the Metro ( formerly a London sponsor), surely the club could put something together even if only for this game?

| Not sure why everyone is getting so excited about this game, it's a challenge cup game against an unproven NL1 side.
As for the 1500 that turned up at skolars to see "a historic" game and suggesting it would be embarrassing if broncos didn't match it, why? A record crowd at skolars fine, excellent, I think it's great for the game down here but what will the average gate be for the rest of the season at new river?
Broncos 2 home games so far are probably our biggest of the season and I doubt we will come anywhere near until the 8s.
I don't care who owns the club? I don't care who is in the back office! All I am interested in is what happens on a match day when those 13 blokes on either side go head to head. Why would I stop watching the sport I love just because a rich bloke wants to keep us afloat for his own pleasure, it gives me a rugby league team to watch.
But it's good to see lapsed fans coming back. Maybe as fans we should just concentrate on the 80 minutes on the park.

Micky, at the risk of starting you off, maybe for some of us it's more than just the 80 minutes on the park - if we don't get the off pitch stuff right maybe we won't have a club to watch for 80 minutes every fortnight ( or week depending on your level of support).
David Hughes won't be around forever.

| Rob you are right. But it's a discussion we have had loads over the past, we are fans! Not ownersI personally can't see what anyone achieves by walking away, all it means is you don't get to watch the game you enjoy. Reality is unless you have a few million tucked away you have very little power to change anything.
We are a small club player a minor sport, for the foreseeable future we are reliant on the Mr Hughes of this world.
I for one am gonna enjoy it while it's around. Can't see the point of walking away.

| The Toronto game is hugely marketable. New club, SL standard players, big novelty value. Are the club making any effort here? I haven't seen it. Im taking 3 people on the back of mentioning it. Should be a cracking game and under floodlights.

| It really would not take a lot of effort to email the existing database and that of Ealing RUFC to promote this game. It would not be more than a hours work.

Think that using the Ealing contacts might cause problems with the Data Protection Act to be honest. The lack of effort on the London database is rather more puzzling.

| Colly, why do you need an e mail? Surely you know when the game is.
Seriously though am a bit puzzled why we would e mail the Ealing ru fans, they are union fans, a bit like harlequin fans I would suggest that they have no interest in our game, bit like most of us have no interest in there's.

| Because if it's legal it may just trigger a few to attend, and hopefully return, for basically zero cost. It's very obvious this club is not even close to self sufficient at the moment. Frankly I don't understand why they wouldn't take any free steps they can to try and boost the fan base and for someone who isn't from a RL background Toronto is more marketable than Dewsbury - unfortunately given the division we are in.
Alternatively we can all sit around patting ourselves on the back about how loyal we all are as games are watched only by the 500 or so who care enough to check when matches are proactively as the club slides into semi pro status - where current gates probably are viable but London would find it difficult to recruit. (Why live in Yorkshire and play for London you have options? Look at the likes of Oxford, at the end of every season they lose their best northern based lads to their local clubs.) Championship One could then be calling, assuming the club survives.

| IIRC the Skolars were in touch with Wolfpack, the Canadian Embassy and Maple Leaf Pub, etc, promoting their game. Apparently several hundred curious Canucks turned up. Have the Broncos done anything similar?

| It's the home teams responsibility to market a game. Whilst I'm sure they would be willing to share contacts why on earth would Toronto use their resources to market this when they are building up to their first ever home game. That's far more important off the pitch to them than this game.

| Well as cc game gates are 50/50 you would think they would want to promote the game to get the numbers up as well, or is that suggesting gate receipts don't matter to wokfpack.
Besides I thought the previous post said skolars spoke with wokfpack before there game re promotion

| On a serious note, marketing is never going to be easy. Who do you market to? Those "several hundred curious cannuks" if they are interested after game one they watched at skolars I would suggest they would not assume it was a one off event and would probably now be watching what the club are doing on available media channels. So if they liked what they saw we wil see em on fri.
What is the point in the club marketing the game to people who already know what's going on? Everyone on here who says they have not heard from the club, so what? Surely everyone who is on here knows what and where we are playing so why do they need to e mail/phone/mail us.
Marketing primarily for current fans is surely "pull" rather than "push" on information. So I don't need to club to push info to me, as an active fan I pull the information from several sources.
Potential new markets need push and pull info, but push is in effect "cold callling" so identifying who you cold call is the problem. Just throwing a question out there if you recieved "cold call" e mail from an unwanted source don't you call it spam these days? If I was to recieve spam e mail from ealing RU promoting on of there games I would firstly give it a stiff ignoring because it's a sport I have no interest in and second would want to know who "sold" them my contact details.
Just a thought folks.
