Great news.

Excellent news, a player who has come on leaps and bounds in the last couple of years. Thoroughly deserves his new contract IMHO.

Only thing that surprises me is why not a five year contract like lawrence got a couple of years ago. Tie him to the club long term. Young with bags of potential we should be keeping him longer.

Leroy's worked hard for this deal (which was done prior to xmas) im told if he manages to maintain form a further 2 years is on the table taking him to 2014.

for producing 2 great young players for the town. i dont think that the community clubs get a big enough thanks for sourcing players and working with them year after year. Leroy has been lucky that from his days as a under 12 all the way up to now he has had the best coaching available at that age group. (im moldgreen so you dont know how ill saying this makes me feel

Great news for you guys, a player I really enjoy watching and with Brett Hodgson there for him to learn from, hopefully he can go on to become a top full back for England. I really think the lad has the talent to go all the way.

its great to see homegrown players like Leroy, Bruno and Eorl commiting to the club , it shows how far we have come in the last few years that players from our town are wanting to play for us rather than nipping off to other clubs.

Add to this Kirmond / Lunt / Patrick being brought through to make SL debuts and there can be little doubt the club is developing talent.

agree with durham giant though could of been a longer contract as hes only 21... Brett hodgson may sign an extension with us for another year so leroy could be on the wing again next season which we know he doesnt class himself as a winger and wants to play full back

Great news. He has won me over and has become stronger and stronger as a SL player.

I must admit I am rather surprised that he has only been offered a 2 year extension to say others have been issued with 5 year as h is supposed to be a great prospect for the future but never the less he is now with us for another 2 years.

On the length of contract issue. The way I read it is that Leroy has signed for two more years on the same t&c's as his currnet contract. This would IIRC take him to a five year contract the same as Michael Lawrence. Assuming he will be on a standard young/squad player contract and that in two years time he will, hopefully be our first choice full back we would have, at that point, to pay him more to reflect his standing in the squad. Since we can't afford to pay him that wage now due to salary constraints and since if we gave him 5 years on his current terms his agent would be demanding an increase in two years anyway. Then the two year extension, then in 16 months or so sit down and start to negotiate a longer deal looks like the better option.

Or I may be talking cobblers.
