Not so sure that MDV didn't justify his signing. I think he failed to live up to some fans expectations in that he wasn't the type of player they had envisaged.

Once he came back from injury, he earned his corn. I'll admit I may have been influenced by wanting to kick back against the amount of unjustified stick he used to get from the stands, but I remember a consumate professional. He wasn't flash, he was an utterly reliable defence oriented centre. I quite liked the try he scored in the cup semi, mind you!

De Vere wasn't on 'mega bucks'.

didnt rate de vere, excellant in defence but how many tries did he score during his time with us?? very poor for a centre... and would of thought he was the top earner

I think he was the only person there that knew he'd scored, until he managed to convince Silverwood to go to the VR.

Poor for a strike centre, yes. But then De Vere never was a strike centre.

He scored a great try for us against Leeds in 2006 at Odsal.

de vere wasnt so much an attacking centre, more of a defensive,tactical centre, i thought he very much earned whatever he got paid while he was with us

and they're lies the problem regarding MDV - people expected him to come in and score 20-30 tries a season but what they didint realise is the he wasnt that kind of player he was a defensive player and boy didnt he do that well.
De Vere was suberb in his 2nd season doing what he did best - kicking goals and stopping the opposition getting over our line.

Very true. More importantly he brought a professionism to the club and showed what was required to take us to the next level. He was an aussie test centre after all.
