| Really disappointed with this. I can't justify it in any way shape or form. After some good steps forward in the off season this feels like a massive step backward. Three more years of watching him run around like a headless chicken and then throw a hospital pass, great.

I know giving a 2 year extension to a 30 year old who hasn't had a good game for 2 years and isn't even out of contract until the end of 2015. Literally the only reason that I can see for this is that he gets a testimonial at the end of it. Just because he's a decent bloke who is popular in the dressing room. Those are attributes you want in a drinking mate not in a professional sportsman.
It's such an amateur move entirely based on sentiment, we're supposed to be a professional sport.
And people wonder why we can't beat the Aussies and Kiwis.

| Anderson must be happy to keep him. For me if used as a hooker he will add real value to the side. Do not think he offers as much at half back but can cause real problems from dummy half and am more than happy with this.

This. I really think with Lunt starting and Robbo the interchange, Robbo can have another lease of life and also take some pressure off Lunt.
I feel not only does he still have value to add on the pitch but also off it. I hear that he gives real support to the likes of Leeming and the 'next generation' which can only benefits those players and therefore the Giants as a whole. Slightly surprised at the length of the deal but delighted he is staying with us.

| Wow I wonder if I watch a different team or game to others
Brough might be our go to guy for the killing blow but Robbo is the player getting the team into position to land that blow, the whole squad under performed last season but the year we won the minor premiers he was genuininley the player that put us in the position to win games
He's lost his killer acceleration but he's still one of the best play makers about - and for those naysayers, who should we get

| code 13 robbo was very poor last year as was most to be fair.a lot of knock ons and some socking passing.if the club is short of funds as most on this forums are saying then giving a 30 year old a 3 year extension with a year still to go makes no sense to me but since when as the giants been a well run club

| I think robbo was put upon a bit last year as he didn't know where he was playing from one game to the next at times. He would be training at half back all week then suddenly told he's be playing at hooker. Hopefully with a settled position he can get some of his spark back.

| Bit surprised by this news, but if the guy carries on at hooker, then happy days. He is top drawer as a bench hooker. Few are better. And he's a top character to boot.
If he's deployed in the halves then no I don't get it. Time will tell on this one.

You must watch a different game to me.
Robbo must be second only to Broughy in giving try scoring passes, and he is up first in the tackle many times.
I am pleased we have kept him on.

I think Wood was solid last year when given a starting spot. Was starting to look good when him and Brough started to gel. Then he got injured... And we seemed to collapse again.
On the topic I'm well happy with a deal for Robbo. He does throw hospital passes... Probably one two many. His experience is valuable and I hope to see him off the bench running at a tired defense.
Anyone against the deal... Even if you don't rate him... He is fantastic cover should we get injuries.

I get the whole "good in the dressing room bit", I also can understand why coaches like him. He's tough, he'll give 100%, he'll put his body on the line, I bet he's an enthusiastic and willing worker in training and I'm damned sure he is good for dressing room morale. However he is 30. He still had 1 year to run on his current contract. At the end of that he will be 31. In 2011 he was probably our best player but he has been in steady decline since then. He has lost a yard of acceleration. He also has a tendency to make bad decisions. He was always a player who played with his body rather than his mind. He also has a tendency to get hit hard and late by opposition forwards. He could be only one or two hits like that away from spending the rest of his life sitting in a darkened room, overdosing on painkillers.
What I therefore cannot understand is why someone would think that extending such a players contract by 2 years while his current deal has 1 year left to run makes good business sense. The club could wait until half way through next season, see how he goes and then extend it. What happens if his form drops off a cliff? What happens, god forbid, if he gets a serious injury? It's the right decision from a sentimental point of view but if the club is serious about winning things then decisions like this can't be made. We now have one less roster spot available for 2016 and 17. That limits the clubs options going forward, it blocks the potential development of a young player. It seems the club has not learned the lessons of the Keith Mason saga and that is worrying.

Extending Robbos contract hardly shoots down our ambitions of winning things. Forget about next season and see the signing as extending a contract of a hard working lad, with tons of experience who can play good rugby in key positions. Positions where World beaters don't exactly come around so often. For the club, and the business this extension can only be a good thing for our future surely...
He's given us plenty of reasons to celebrate the decision not question it.

| sure this move is to play him at hooker, hope we got him at the right price too.
he was struggling badly last season with injuried, they had to give him a rest at one point due to this, not been in for any ops pre season as far as i know, one tough cookie though

The very key thing is we have some youngsters with excellent potential in the HB position the best I've seen for a while. And Brough and robbo around to bring them on alongside Thorman will be invaluable to their development.

Exactly!! Robbo for me has one of the bravest souls out there! A great work ethic and attitude! We are building to be one of the sl clubs that brings through our own talent through the academy. For this to work we need the like of robbo to stick with us.
He is a talent and I believe at hooker he will cause a lot of damage. The things he can pass on to cruise, Connor and the rest is invaluable not just how to play the game but be a professional!
It's a great reward for him and a player in years to come who many will not forget!

| maybe, just maybe he has signed an extended contract that might have a clause that should he feel the need to call it a day, for whatever reason, hopefully no serious injury? maybe he has taken a pay cut to enable to club the offer him such a contract? maybe his contract has something to do with coaching the young kids that we are all clamouring for??
i for one am happy to know that we have robbo on board for another 3 years in whatever capacity..he may not be the best half back or hooker but his desire and experience is invaluable i feel.
