Surely if you're suggesting that you should really start the post with "Once upon a time..."

In your opinion it was late, in my opinion it wasnt, guess we'll just have to agree to disagree but either way it wont be a ban. I will be gobsmacked and incensed if he is up before the beak but even if he is it will only be a caution and that would be due to soft a**e Brown whinging to the world press that you are not allowed to put big hits on small blokes.
I would assume he will be dropping Mason this week as surely he doesnt like the fact that he gave Mcilorum (small in stature - big in reputation) a smack for nothing?
How would it go if a small bloke put a big shot on a big bloke like leuleuai on Maurie or Briscoe on Bailey, would he dislike that??
I agree though its a big risk putting fa'alogo and Mason on such a pedestal, there will be many an enforcer just looking for an opportunity to get one up on them, they may be able to "handle themselves" but I'm sure there are a few that can handle themselves better.

| A touch of the Jose Mourhino from Mr Brown I think.
He started by complementing the ref "I thought the referee had a great game" and then came up with his analogy.
The clear message was take another cheap late high/accidently high (let's face it Lockers tackling technique at the best of times is woeful and he frequently comes up with high shots) and you will get a slap.
That tells Wigan that in two weeks if they try it again there will be a bit of Biff and will probably discourage them from doing it. It's also going to get more fire in the Giants side for the rematch.
In relation to hard men I don't think that Mason and Fa'alongo have much to worry about from Wigan. Feka would be knackered trying to catch someone to hit them (17 minutes game time on my watch - shocking) and Stuart Glass Jaw Fielden hardly meets that criteria. For me Wigan's hardest player is Thomas Leuluai and he's hardly Tim Street.
Nice to see a bit of socceresque showmanship from Brown and let's hope it works.

| It's all been blown out of proportion anyway this IMO. I remember the piece when he was in charge of St George and they played Melbourne, the press blow it up into some big tanty-esque type rant where in reality it wasn't and he was actually making a fair point.
The players of both sides wont be reading much into it I don't think, it just gives people something to post drivel about on messageboards!

Unfortunately it makes no difference at all how good a point he was making, he just cannot get away with saying it! It was the hit that was blown out of proportion.
the hit was not late, watch it again at full speed. I did at the ground and my vision is 20/20!

Ha Ha, what a tool!! Talk about my dads bigger than your dad!! I can't believe you are analysing wigans players as to wether they could handle Mason or Fa'alongo!! You obviously haven't seen Feka in a bad mood and Stuart "glass jaw" Fielden as you refer to him got a smack that would have dropped any RL player. I would have loved Mcilorum to lose the plot instead of laughing at Mason, me thinks Mason would have had a shock!

| If the hit wasn't late then brown has said nothing wrong. If we go in like lockers did on Robinson the pieeaters and the rl should have nothing to complain about. If it's fair I look forward to mason and fa'olgo not pulling out when committed to the tackle. If it's good enough for Wigan then it's good enough for the giants!!!!!!

| The hit wasn't high. It was late.
I'll be honest, being a "little" player myself, I took a fair few hits like this in Amateur RL, and I'd have been perfectly happy taking that particular hit.
The thing to do is respond to it by telling the player "Hit me again!" or blowing him a kiss, winding him up for the potential of more penalties or the mistake, and then you can laugh at them. This whole getting "Bigger Brother" to come and stick up for the "little 'uns" is nothing more than an insult to the likes of Robinson, Rob Burrow, etc.
They're RL players, for chuff's sake, not namby-pamby footballers (actors) or wrestlers (actors).
Back to O'Louglin, probably a warning due to the lateness, more action probably to be taken against Brown.

| You'd be happy to take a late hit like that?
This is beyond ridiculous!
The lateness of it makes it dangerous IMO. Robinson didn't know it was coming and there is potential for injury because of that. Whiplash type injuries etc.

There is ALWAYS the potential for injury in the most innocuous of tackles, it's the nature of the sport.
Believe me, I took far worse than that. I was always appreciative of hard but fair play, and dished it out myself. RL players have a lot of respect for each other in that department, especially a player that picks himself up, dusts himself off and gets stuck back in after a big hit. Robinson, once he'd regathered himself, did exactly that.
I expect the team was proud of him, and Wigan had respect for him as a result.
As has been said elsewhere, the players knew the tackle was late, but it wasn't malicious. That's why they didn't start fighting. When punches were thrown later, players got involved. They're advocates of, and respect, fair play.
And yes, I'd take a hit like that. The exhilaration of playing Rugby League is something I miss greatly.

| There is indeed the risk of injury in every tackle. All the more important then not to defend late shots like that one that are more likely to be the cause of injury.
Suffice it to say I think that the content of that post there is pretty much totally redundant. Who cares if you miss the exhilaration of playing? Who cares if you enjoyed getting hit late when you weren't expecting it? Those things make no difference to the fact that it was a late tackle, it was dangerous and O'Loughlin was fortunate to get away with it.

| He didnt get away with it, he got penalised, and to the letter of the law that was the only real option open to Thaler, he could have put it on report but he didnt obviously feel it was necessary and that wouldnt matter as every game is analysed anyway and if the RFL see fit he will be cited.
It certainly wasn't bad enough for a straight red and the yellow is only used for a proffesional foul or per persistent foul play, this was neither. If Robinson had kicked the ball then a yellow would have been issued for sure down to the TJ's report.

Hang on, until this point you've actually been arguing that it wasn't even late. Now you seem to have changed your mind and say that all he could really have got was a penalty because it wasn't bad enough for a red!
The irony of all this is that even the judiciary wont settle this because they're so weak. Any bans they do issue nowadays are quickly rescinded on appeal. Long gone are the days of getting an extra game for having the cheek to question the judgment!

So in a nutshell, "hit em late" when they're kicking or trying to kick the ball and you might get punished, but you're "fair game" for a late tackle when you've passed the ball from any low life thug that wants to hit you, and if Fishta's words of wisdom are correct "you gain respect" from opposition players, what a load of twaddle, someones taking the p*ss
How long is it going to be before someone get's seriously injured from one of these incidents before the powers that be wake up and clamp down on it ??? Whether some people like it or not, Robinson was hit late/high and some posters are trying to justify this thuggery.
Are you Steve Ganson's lovechild and making things up as you go along or mixing our rules up with American Football ???
