My first post was rugby based, it was your lower class people that changed the tone.

i was simply pointing out that this board used to have lots of posters and new topics every day and everyone was mates etc - then it changed and people wanted to pick fights and score points and argue and bicker with anyone and sometimes just for the sake of it so it seemed so the people who used to frequent the boards (2002-2007 ish) thought balls to it and left the spoilers to it !.

It's so sad to see what this once happy board has turned into

They got a site wide ban. Several times.

Not just them 2 , just look back a couple of years and see some of the names that dont post on here anymore - i still speak to many of them at the games but they got so fed up with the boards they felt it wasnt worth it just to be shot down and abused for their opinions etc.

Wow, you people have some very selective memories.

I've been using this forum since 2002, even then there were the same problems, hell the reason I was asked to mod on this forum was the self same issues you are whining about now.

You look back on this supposed halcyon age if you want, me, I can actually remember what it was like, if anything its better now than it was then!

Forum users come and go, its a natural cycle of things for starters but tell you what, just for you lot, I can take a zero tollerance to arguments and snide comments, see how long it takes some of you to start PMing me and the Admins about how unfair it all is.

The fact is that when you get loads of people on the same place conversing you are bound to have arguments and fallings out. Peoples opinions differ, that is a fact of life. Because there were several strong willed people each wanted to have the last word, not to be seen to back down and thus the fabric of the forum was torn.

This forum is hands off managed. I know Michael, Lee and Anthony try their best but each has their own lives to lead and thus come and go so new posters lose their way in the barrage of abuse and personal insults before they are cleaned off and take a hands off approach to posting.

Look at the Wigan board for an example of the opposite end of the spectrum, they ban before they delete the offending posts and before you realise you've said something out of order you are out on your ear. I would suggest the Mods on here become more strict with managing the posts to being about the club, Huddersfield in general and topics that would interest their target audience. That way you can promote the site as being about rugby not a slagging match.

I know MGF wasn't seen as a strong Mod but she posted every tit-bit of Giants information and news she could find. This created rubgy related conversations and thus diffused many arguments. Cramming everyone onto two or three topics is going to cause friction.

The fact that there are only two of three Giants related topics on a Giants forum is half the problem. Why would people post when there is nothing to discuss? IN the 'glory days' of 2002-2007 you had people willing to post new and thoughtful topics which generated good conversations + people wanting to meetup and have a beer and a chat. That is where many friendships have been formed.

The giants average crowd has risen massively but the same percentage growth has not been seen on here. Couple this with the same percentage rises of other teams and you can see that you have a smaller proportion of posters to trollers which increases the attempts to undermine and antagonise.

As a user I prefer hands off modding, I utterly dislike the "nanny state" that happens on other sub-forums.

But then I have also said people get out of a forum what they put into it, and some of the people complaining on here about "how it used to be better" are as guilty as any of being the problem.

The reason i hardly ever post on here anymore is the lack of interesting topics and the fact my works pc would not let me onto the site.

For some reason it is currently letting me access the site so i have used it more recently. As for the arguments i couldn't ever be bothered to get involved and couldn't understand how upset people got when they always had the option to ignore or even stay off the site.


If there were more rugby related topics i am sure i would post more.

I can imagine why FJ got one he posted some pretty ott stuff on the Wakey site once upon a time. However Smiler always seemed a decent enough fella or was his ban for something that happened away from the forum?

You are right about the trolls and some of them need to be dealt with differently and that is down to the mods to decide on. Unfortunatley our more vocal contributors seem to have decided that the way to deal with trolls is to out trioll them and hence make numerous threads pointless and off putting to everyone else.

i still post on here but i spend more time posting on other boards as i find the level of discussion and debate is higher.
I use Two other sites to post on , both of which have strength and weaknesses. there are several well versed posters on Giants rl and lots of passionate posters on Giants co.nr.

The problem is you find you are discussing with the same few posters and neither of them are used by other teams fans. I enjoy some of the banter with them( other teams fans) which to my mind gives this forum the edge. Unfortunately it is now becoming a rump forum which benefits no one.

It is both the blessing and curse of RLFans, is its size. So many different opinions and interjection from other clubs fans.

Are you sure about that? I never said anything about her weight but I feel, based on her actions, that she was an awful mod who was guilty of serial nepotism.
