Quote ="wigsey"Looking at the play off system and last years results it strikes me that it is better to be 5th or 6th than 3rd or 4th.
5/6 get a home tie against 7 or 8 then away v the loser of the top four games. Hence playing a side that has been in a very tough game the week before. Next up is against the winner of the top four game. In reality this means play 7 or 8 then 3 or 4 then 1 or two.
In third or fourth you play 1 or 2 then a lower then back to 1 or 2.
My theory may also be borne out by last year when both Giants and Hull Kr (3 and 4) got turned over by lower teams (catalan and Wigan).
So for me if Giants can hold on to sixth and get some players back fit then they can go well in the playoffs'"
But if you finish 3rd or 4th and win your first game, you get a week off then play potentially a 5th or 6th placd team (based on your logic) ala Catalans last season getting through to the semi.
Pro's and con's for both although it's certainly much better to finish 5th or 6th the 7th or 8th.
