Terrible decision

Better still get rid of him, I cornt stond him. It's never been this bad. Too many issues with officiating every week.It wasn't like this when Ian Smith was in charge

The ref stood in wrong place if Gregg had left it they would have scored
He also did this in field twice yesterday
Poor positioning no need for him to stand there at all seeing we had in goal officials

Gregg McNally charged with Grade C - Contact with Match Official (Early Guilty Plea available). If guilty, the recommended suspension for Grade C is 2 or 3 matches with reduction by one match by playing the EGP card.

I am now desperate to see the match video to confirm what I believe I saw no more than 20 metres away from our position in the Stand, behind the sticks that Leigh were defending. McNally must decide in a split second how to defend a kick through on the last by Salford with the referee in a direct line between himself, the ball and the kicker.
In the event, with the help of a shove on the ref, Gregg managed to scramble the ball dead. Had the ref not been so badly positioned I believe Gregg would have collected the ball and run into the field of play from the in-goal, on the first tackle. The ref awarded Leigh a drop out from under our own sticks - arguably adding further insult to injury. The referee was not knocked over or injured in any way.

Chris Houston (for Widnes v Warrington on Thursday) who cleaned out the ref, running a defensive line he could have probably avoided, is up for Grade D - Contact with Match Official (EGP not available). The recommended suspension for Grade D is 3 to 5 games.
Houston had conceded 3 penalties earlier in the same game and I guess will be panned for a 5 game ban on the basis that he could have been taking retribution for feeling hard done-by earlier.

With the RFL current purge on the 'Contact with Match Official offence' there is every chance Gregg with get 3 games reduced to 2 with the EGP. At a time when I can't recall refereeing standards being so poor, I am not sure what the outcome will say about our sport.

Exactly as I saw it PTB. Maybe the ref was badly positioned, maybe not. But surely he was clearly obstructing McNally from doing his job. Surely, common sense will prevail?

Either way he should escape punishment.

Be interested to know who files the actual citation. Maybe one for Reffy this. Is it the ref himself or one of the other officials?

I reckon HKR will be pushing for a lengthy ban for McNally and another eight of our players tomorrow, as compensation for being 'made' to play so soon after returning from their jolly in Toulouse!

Greg did the right thing and anyone who saw that incident knows it. A daft decision to charge him imo.

First let me say I agree totally that the referee was in a poor position but unfortunately it doesn't seem to matter to the rfl.
Two cases, Hock at Salford chases a kick in goal collides with Thomasson who takes to social media makes a joke about his whistle being injured, Hock Six game ban. Carney at Huddersfield this season standing still Childs approaches him Carney puts his forearm out two game ban.
If you see the Gale one he runs to the referee and puts his hand on his shoulder to dispute a penalty charge = A the sport really needs to able to distinguish between deliberate and accidentall/poor positioning by officials.

Having now seen the match video on LCTV and replayed the incident 5 times, I can confirm exactly what I reported earlier.
What the hell is Gregg supposed to do - concede a try or make an attempt to diffuse the kick through.
The referee puts himself in a ridiculous position - directly in line with the direction of travel of the Salford kick through on the last.
Why has Gregg even been charged?
If he gets a suspension for that then our sport is making a complete idiot of itself.
I suggest that the RFL should do something useful and put in a concerted effort to raise the abysmal refereeing performances we are witnessing week in week out. The standards have never been as poor in the 40 years that I have been watching the game.
If we are to survive in SL we need a fair crack from both the officials and the Disciplinary process. At present neither aspect of our great game, in my humble opinion, is fit for purpose.
Rugby Union must be laughing at us and confirmimg their belief that we are just a bunch of amateurs playing at running a professional sport.

6 SL discipinary charges from Good Friday, 4 of them include shoving/swearing at a REF.....enough said.

Totally agree PTB, some of the decisions from Jack Smith were baffling to say the least.Although he had no bearing on the result,his officiating is nothing short of dire.
