I heard a whisper this morning that Tommy Mather who has been kit man at the Club for the past 10/11 years got a phone call from Paul Rowley to tell him he was no longer required. No other information, bad time for the chap Christmas time and all that, as well as trying to come to terms as to "why"

I always thought the Kit Men at the club were Frank Taylor and Sean Fairhurst.

This happened about 3 weeks ago. Tommy was the reserve team kit man and with no reserves now tommy was not needed unfortunately. And it wasnt rowley that rang him at all thats bull

I agree it's shame for Tommy, but why the need to post the 'whisper' that u heard on 'ere pal ?

No it doesn’t it’s never nice but sometimes hard business decisions have to be made, in my working life I’ve unfortunately had to make quite a few people redundant including a mate whom I was best man for and even after I finished him I was still asked to be God father to his son. I’ve also made my Brother in law redundant twice.

I understand that, it was more in the way it was apparently done, but as other comments appear to point out, the original post may not be as accurate as the poster thought it was.

It is the 'wanting to be the first' syndrome.

Being the first doesn't interest me. I heard a whisper (not on ere but in the Market Hall) I was chatting to a stall holder, Tommy had been chatting to the same guy the previous day and had said how devastated he was to receive a phone call telling him his services were no longer required. I understand his call was from Paul Rowley, that might be wrong North Stand Leyther seems to know. It doesn't matter when it was or who made the call, but as he was a staff member, it is of interest surely. Good Luck Tommy, with the Reserves not now operating perhaps it was inevitable that you would become surplus to requirements, although I understand you did a lot of stuff for the first team

Are we going down the route of no anti club posts on this forum again? The original post was not made in a malicious tone but one of consideration for Tommy. I read the post as Paul having to make a phone call he didn't really want to make. Glow is spot about business decisions. It's tough sometimes but they have to be made. I would like to think that Tommy will always be a welcome guest at the club.
