| Does look like some excellent work going on out in Canada. Not sure if this is a great idea though, surely the money they'll be spending flying British teams across would be better spent building their own league. Perhaps send some of the top League 1 &/or Bottom Championship teams out there pre-season for some sort of cup competition instead.

| I was introduced to the Gentlemen by our Chairman after the GF, two great guys who have a vision for RL in Canadian society and I feel they will achieve it, Paul Byrne's name came up in despatches also

| I'm sure we'd have the biggest travelling support there anyway thanks to the Canadian contingent on here! As a serious suggestion, though, I'm sure the money could be better spent investing in their own league to help develop their national side.

| Wow. Just wow.
It's completely barmy of course - but could it possibly happen? Should it happen? Will it be allowed to happen?
The standard of play is probably mid-Champ 1 so that seems fine to me. There are some decent players that with some sustained professional coaching could go well in the Championship. Enoch Wamalwa is a huge crowd favourite, speedy and strong as an ox...would love to see him progress...my son's favourite player...!
As for crowds, well right off the bat they would be (and are) bigger than anything in the Championship and would rival the lesser supported clubs in SL...and that is against Champ 1 one sides. Canada got 5,000 against the RAF! If they could get to the point where they could entertain Top 8 SL sides, well you are going to be well into double figures.
I know the two men at the helm of all this, Cory and Eric and they are the real deal. They have started the game from literally nothing and stuck with it for quite a few years now. They have big ideas and will go-get until they have succeeded.
Will just have to see where this all ends up. I cannot see it happening but nevertheless it just emphasizes that these are exciting times over here!

| Very, very interesting !
Funny thing is, it would take me as long to fly from Vancouver to Toronto, as it would for anyone coming from Manchester airport to get there. It would probably cost me more to fly also
Due to the distance I do not personally know any of the Toronto guys who are involved in this proposal but I do know of them. It is a huge long shot but I would suggest that a Canadian National Team vs Leigh has some legs as a starting point to build momentum, if the same offer of expenses paid is possible of course.
And why would Leigh be considered ?
well don't forget who the Canadian Coach is.

I think they realize that they need better competition to improve quicker. 2016 is a key year for RLWC qualification and it will all come down to 2 games. They need the intensity of weekly matches against more seasoned opposition.
Yes, they could spend $200,000 on going round the schools and getting the grass roots going - that strategy could take a very long time. They seem to be focusing on the national game. It wouldn't be the way it was done in the UK, but you cannot knock what they have achieved...!
On the other hand, there is a lot, lot more to be done - need more coaches, more refs for starters...
There used to be a link-up between Leigh and the Toronto club but not heard anything about it under the new BOM. I think it should be restarted - who knows what gem could be unearthed that could come and play for Leigh in a year or two?
