Judging by the response on the Fans Forum thread, it seems the LeighLife experiment of broadcasting tonight's event was a big success, and with mention at the Forum of broadcasting online commentary, video highlights etc during the season, I wondered whether there was any scope in offering this as some of package for a few quid a month which would presumably help to cover production costs and also hopefully make some profit for the club?

This isn't necessarily aimed at those who will be forking out for the monthly season tickets etc and milking the same pockets, but more at those who are unable to attend fixtures and can therefore still contribute to the club whilst getting better than ever coverage in return, especially as I imagine BBC Manchester won't be covering as many of our games in 2012.

The main thing that we need is more internet memory for Leighlife, Pete is going to examine how much is needed and the cost implication to ensure a smooth running programme.

How about creating an iPhone and Android app that links to leighlife. Then you can charge for it that way. You pay a single fee for access to commentaries for 1 season.

As Fred said, the test on the system last night showed us that we will definitely need to buy more memory space than we'd normally need for the every day running of Leighlife and we will be actively looking for a sponsor/advertiser to help pay towards this, especially as we think that far more people will listen in to a live match broadcast than listened in last night. We also think that many rugby fans who have internet access and aren't at a game will listen in, regardless of which team they support.

Pete is, as Fred says, just weighing up the cost of the extra space needed and once we know that we can try to make provisions to cover the cost.

I have just been getting some advice on this very subject about creating an app. Its a bit sensitive cos i don't want to step on anybody's toes here including this Site.

We see how popular this years Fantasy SL comp is on this forum and how well the forecast comp runs with the great effort from Dereck and Co. I have been in interim discussions regarding an app that combines the two. (sorry Dereck, I'm not stepping on your toes I am testing the water first to see if its viable before i mentioned it).

Theres a slightly different spin on the Fantasy SL comp so that it creates an income stream. Your Team consists of 17 players and you will have the ability to interchange your team "live" with only points earned when your player is on the field. You will be txted live (if you choose this option ,prob every 10mins and at a cost to you) updates of your players performance for eg Richards 2 try's and 2 from 4 or S.Tomkins off with deadleg or Dixon 0 try 0 goals thus giving you the opportunity to interchange (at a cost). BBC does live SL updates so information can be retreived from there. Its very very early discusions but what do you think ? would there be interest if we say prizes of season tickets and GF and CC tickets?

OMG looks like lots of people have thought of apps

you could have an official Leigh Centurions App - a fiver to download and you get free radio commentary from it as well as other things like squad pictures, stats, team news, LISA news etc.

Thats another great idea. I use to listen to commentary on my little Fm/Mw radio at games in the olden days. Makes for some interesting viewing when you have commentary when your also watching live

It's internet commentary we can't afford a radio licence unfortunately, but did you know the LSV has a facility for listening to the game if your blind/limited eyesight?

I just want to make one thing clear. This is not about making money for Leighlife, it's about offering a service to the club and it's fans and hopefully help towards generating some income for the club.

We have had this radio on Leighlife for a couple of years and have offered help in the past but no one at the club was ever interested before so the radio was basically just switched off. All the technology is already there, it's just the memory space that needs paying for and hopefully we will be able to find a way of doing this.

Luckily for us, the season is over so we have a good few months to come up with something.

We also offered the service to local bands, scriptwriting groups etc where they could do a recording (or do it live if they were brave enough) and we'd play it for them but we never really got a response so switched the radio off.

I have to say that, having volunteered to run a Communications project, I couldn't believe my luck, when you good folk at LeighLife turned up. You have opened up all sorts of exciting possibilities to project the name, product and brand of the Centurions.

Just so long as you don't all keep talking 'tech-speak' to me - you must have realised what effect that has on me?!

Wouldn't dream of asking a woman to brew up. Trevor did say, last night, if it had been a woman doing the presentation, she wouldn't have needed someone to project the slides while she was talking! However, even a woman would have struggled with doing the slides, talking and holding the flipping plug in at the same time!

I think you may well be the first woman to join a PSG group!

Love the LeighLife initiative. While we as supporters can all view it there is the added bonus that it's not just preeching to the converted which is something the club has been guilty of over the years.

I finally feel that the club has realised it has to change, be more open and accept that the fans are more than just people who stand on the terraces. We are in essence the lifeblood of this club and together we can help make it bigger and stronger.

Whilst looking further afield for new fans, it is very important that we still 'preach to the converted' too. As a fan, I've been saying for ages that we must be communicated with. (and look where I've ended up now!

) It may sound 'corny' but Trevor's view of the fans as 'shareholders' is like a breath of fresh air.

A ' Census ' carried out at a match early next season to give us the necessary information and contact details of our existing fan base is a necessity IMO

We're having a meeting with the College Media Studies guy at the end of October, Steve. I'll put that to him and ask if they can help. If we pick the 'right' opposition, there will be little danger of confusing away fans with Leythers.
