Does anyone know what the first ever photo of Leigh Rugby is? I'd be interested to see it

Ask Frank B. He was probably the photographer that took it.

In actual fact I did see the pic as it was on the wall in Leigh RLFC clubhouse about 120 years ago.

We received a telegraph from someone in Aspull who asked could we loan them a set of Cherry and White shirts as they wanted to set up a club in a place called Wigan and could not afford the expense.

Well being decent types we "wired back" and 2 days later a couple of lads arrived with a wheelbarrow came into our clubhouse and "borrowed" a set of shirts.

We loaded them into the wheelbarrow bought em both a pint. When they had left we were just shutting up for the night and noticed several pasties were missing and the pic on the wall had gone.



We never saw the shirts pasties or team pic again.

Maybe you should ask on the Wigan board

On a more serious note, there's a photo in Leigh RLFC An Illustrated History of a Leigh team from 1895-96...and they're wearing what lookes like a white shirt with a dark band across the middle.

I have some very grainey footage (somewhere) of them running out onto Mather Lane.

I have a couple from 1908 - one of them is the team photo from when they played Australia.

I'm sure I've seen older photo's than that somewhere.

Sure I saw a few on the wall of the Alehouse a few years ago......
