Interesting point you make there! We have had a succession of recent coaches, who were forwards - and with all respect to them, who is meant to coach/improve the backs? Mind you, the last couple of seasons, we have not recruited enough backs (e.g. stand off/centre) - maybe that's a downside of having a forward in charge?

I don't think there will be any problem with Paul as number two to Millward. He hopefully will learn alot from Ian and can continue to learn his trade. However, Kelly? Where does he fit in? somehow I can't see all three being able to work together considering the way it's all come about... Kelly... Rowley... Millward but all three still at the club?



Be interesting, having said that, I think it's important to have who Ian wants as his assistant, no good in Leigh putting Paul as his assistant if Ian didn't want him there.

Millward does want Rowley, well documented when Millward signed.

As for asking Murph to help, sorry and no disrespect to the great man but that was tried a few years ago and we all remember how that turned out (or do we???)

As for todays coaching staff not consulting him I wonder what Murph would have said if back in the 60's they had asked an ex coach to advise him now that would have been treading on a giant ego



Sorry but Murph wasn't a great coach, a great motivator yes but his methods have gone the way of Grammar schools, Railways, Coal Mines, The Cotton Industry and safe driving, all sadly lamented but gone in the myths of time

i thought you might of been referring to SL as i know for a fact Murph tried his hardest to offer Abram advice on players etc and Abram did not accept although saying that he listened to no one!

A fresh start and a new coach should mean a new set up in many peoples eyes
However it seems that Paul will revert back to assitant coach again.
Just what his skills are in this department are rightly up for questioning as he does appear to have been assistant (or even coach) during a major slide in performances at the club.
Hopefully with Millward things will change for him and more importantly the club.

A few years ago most people whould have been chuffed to bits with a Millward / Rowley combination at Leigh, I think whats soured this is the perception that Leigh must have a coach who already has his assistant picked for him on not 1 but 2 occasions.

I cant say this enough but if ANYONE thinks anyone is giving Ian coaches, players or anything else bar a salary they are CRAZY!

So either Ian Millward has chosen a very inexperienced assistant coach with a terrible record in the results business or the assistant position has not been filled and is open

with a three year contract in his 'sky rocket' its Paul Rowley, widely reported widely aknowledged why can't some people accept the inevitable.

i dont know. i think rowley would be an ok assistant to millward but i think kelly would be the ideal man

I've not been able to get the official club announcemants from Millwards signing as the archive doesn't go that far back on the website but I only seem to remember the announcement saying how AT thanked Paul Rowley for his services during the interim and that Paul would continue as a coach working alongside Ian, don't remember it being officially stated as Assitant Coach to Ian or just one of the backroom coaches (but like I said finding links about the last bit of good news the club had is fairly difficult

).

One thing is for sure though, if Paul does stay on as Ians assistant I'm sure he'll remember all the "help" he's received lately from a lot of the current players.
