Take your Leigh tinted glasses off and look at the facts and how good said players are NOW not 2-3 even 10 years ago.
If you seriously think Leigh or any other championship club are going to be in SL in the next 5 years under the current system and rules then you must be bonkers.
The only way that would happen is if the salary cap was the same for Championship as SL and Derek was willing to pump 1.8 million of his own money (less the bit of funding you do get from Sky , the sponsors and season tickets ofc,) into getting you there but lets face facts again....
Super League is whole different beast and the pressure and intensity of it is far superior to anything that championship can serve up, and playing intense SL week in week out as apposed to tig and pass againt part timers most weeks will leave SL clubs in a far better position come August. FACT
Super League clubs have first choice on all the best players and the top teams get all the ELITE players so to speak, hence why the only clubs to win SL in 20 years other than Bradford in the 90s (look at them now) are Wigan Leeds and Saints, only Hull and Warrington have ever being at OT other than said teams, so the said teams automatically get first choice on any ELITE player with ambition and not after cash Tom Briscoe being a perfect example and Leeds not Leigh being linked with Sam B, as well as first pick on many youngsters. Also they can sign players for alot less money as ambitious players dont just play for money they actually want to win a trophy/ring (not a championship 1) so that also gives them alot bigger squad of players to choose from with a wage structure to suit. FACT

WOW guys your recruitment has being excellent with world class talent you will win the championship breeze the middle 8s walk the CC and win SL in 2017 but then I would really be talking out of my bum wouldn't I .....

I think whatever job you do in life you want to achieve more.

RL players have a relatively short career workwise so to suggest some want just to win medals rather than make money seems to me to be strange.

To succeed and to be better you need to try and' as in life as in sport.. Good.

Superleague has to be the ultimate ambition for all clubs otherwise stay the same and you'll always be the same.

The club I follow has that ambition. Good.

Look, we all know that the system is still heavily loaded in favour of SL teams, and that we poor relations in the Championship need to know our place.

However, surely any club with ambition needs to try and get to the 'promised land' within the system that's in place? I applaud my club for showing some ambition and will support them fully in that quest.

You quite rightly point out that, within SL itself, there is something of a 'closed shop' with only three/four teams winning anything. Yet that hasn't stopped your club from showing ambition, and having a decent crack, on the playing field at least, at breaking that monopoly at the top. After all, it's not that long since you guys were slumming it with the rest of us, down in the Championship.



Bradford, Leigh, Sheffield and Halifax, for starters, are going to try everything possible to get into SL, within the existing rules and constraints. Maybe some/all of those clubs have learned a lot from last season's Qualifiers and who knows, one of them may find the magic formula for getting to SL. Remember, it only needs one SL team to have a disastrous run of form, or (heaven forbid) a glut of injuries, at the wrong time, to open the door for a Championship club.

Are you the Soothsayer of this Forum?You don't half spout some tripe.And state the obvious ,so Superleague is every clubs ultimate ambition WOW that's news to me wake up my friend it's all about money I admit Leigh have a bit but can't spend it as rules are rules ,Fax have more cash than Leigh we finished higher than you in the League but are not throwing it about the word is thrift and Tiger an is spot on.

..or alternatively your directors have reclaimed some of their loans to the club? Is that the real reason you haven't gone FT. Just speculating like most people on here at the moment

What you empty head fax fans fail to understand Leigh Centurions are no worse off today finishing 8th in the middle 8's than finishing 5th.

The throwing of matches at the end of the season had no impact on us in fact they just motivated everyone connected to the club even more!!

As a Leigh fan, here is my spin on things.

Winning the league now means Jack**** ! The value of that means nothing due to the middle 8's for which we finished rock bottom and lost £400k as a result of it. The fixtures didn't help us one bit, but that second half against Hull KR lost us the lot in my opinion !

The format of the middle 8's need changing. I think Beaumont has a strong case to be heard on that perspective. If other teams want to stay PT, that up to them, but teams like Halifax will always be difficult to play against, irrespective of Status and good on them.

I hope team and game management change next year. If it does, we will do fine. Against better teams, Leigh can look very ordinary defensively. No plan B resulted in playing conservative Rugby for which we are not drilled or fit enough yet to play.

If we have a plan B next season, we will be fine and all this pre season banter will be History. Leigh will be far better prepared mentally and physically.

Only the small matter of about 300k? Im really sure Degsy can afford to make that up with little worry. He's a business man, if you think he has not had sleepless nights thinking about that sort of money you are a bigger clown than you normally make out.

£300k was lost in prize money however the truth is it had zero effect on Leigh Rugby League club, BECAUSE Derek chose to plug the missing prize money.....

If in your deluded Yorkshire mind set you want to tell yourself Derek had sleepless nights over that, then go right ahead....

Let's just take each game as it comes rather than be over confident like last year and slate other teams like Halifax and Sheffield who both finished above us in the middle eights and completely shut us up. Or you could slate other teams if you wanted but don't start crying because you can give it but can't take it when we get over confident and think we've won something before its even happened and we get the Micky took out of us.

For example middle eights Halifax away talking about how we would go 4th when we won before the game even kicked off only to be absolutley outplayed off the field.

The only thing I will offer on the above, is, we finished where we did because we did not perform well enough but also instrumental was the throwing of games in the last week of the 8s by Wakey and Bradford (I think it was Bradford). We would still only have finished 7th I think.

Its probably no consolation but Fax would have beat Bradford's full team anyway. Lowes knew it which is why he couldnt have that happen and have his team go in to the million pound game on the back of a defeat to a Championship side that was nowhere near good enough to get to that game.
