This is the point we are trying to make (not Speners!).

It does meet all Skys criteria for HD (they only stipulate HD for floodlight ratings) the screen are only glorified scoreboards (this is another groundhog day Ive been through all this umpteen times before

) they cant show a video signal as the 'pixels' (for want of a better explanation) resolution isn't high enough.
The big screen at SL games are not the same as at the LSV.

Fred, does it show video of any description of is it pictures/images only?

IF they had the hardware it would show low resolution vid so our Andy informs me.

That being the case Fred (or anyone who has knowledge of this) - and please don't bite my head off for asking a genuine question!! - was this a mistake by someone within the stadium Mgmt team - or does this come under the actual 'fit & finish' of the build?

I dont think cost cutting was the reason, otherwise we wouldnt have a £100k telly strapped to the front of the West Stand showing adverts to the trees.

far far too much to be honest (imagine the price of a 250 inch LCD or Plasma tv that was weather proof ?- the ones that SKY hire out to SL clubs cost a fortune) so I suppose cost cutting would be a reason but honestly whoever was responsble for the whole design of the place with TV cameras etc in mind didnt get much if any advice from 'them in the know' for example if the sun had been shining bright last evening it would have been directly over the centre of the west stand directly in the lenses of the cameras in the east stand, a nuisance to my £600 camcorder but to a HD broadcast camera where the lenses alone cost £12000 a massive problem as a bright sunlight can burn a lens out (it happened to one of mine at Hilton Park a couple of years ago as like a nit I turned it on when it was pointing directly at the sun - by accident I hastily add

) so a mixture of cost cutting and/or bad advice IMO.

Funny enough ALL broadcast TV cameras up until HD came out were a type of betamax it was far superior to VHS.

I think (as did I TBH) that they may have been able to 'hook up' to the match day camera to show replays etc.. but at the moment that isn't possible.

So just to clarify. If SKY was to screen a SL match at LSV, SKY could position their own big screen in front of LSV's 'state of the art' £100k big screen and then invoice the LSV for the provision of a big screen...

They do the same at most, if not all, grounds that have an existing screen - can remember Sky sticking their own screen in front of the existing one at the Reebok for a GB game.

might of missed something here,sky rent out there screens to clubs that it is broadcasting live events to paying subscribers as well as all clubs gettin a little piece of the sky monies???

Theoretically we could put video throught it, but it would mean dismantling the cabinet housing the hardware in the PA room to get at the sockets, as when it was installed, a patch panel allowing the plugging in of relevent cables at the front of the box was omitted.

It would be great if video replays of the Leigh tries could be shown. Fred takes the pictures and then transmits to the screen. Mind you there wouldn't be a lot to show!

We can't currently show live video. It's a possibility that in the future we might have the capability, but I'm not sure.

However, we can show video files through the screen, but they would have to be prepared beforehand.

The resolution of the screen is only 400-240 so the video would be quite low-res, but probably adequate.

The Sky thing is a moot point though - they wouldn't use our equipment even if they thought it was compatible. They need to run a very tight ship for live broadcasts, and they will only trust their own equipment.

Any chance of showing classic tries and the like on the screen immediately prior to the teams coming out? Build the atmosphere and that.
