| The game against Toulouse may be the biggest in our Super League history (perhaps setting aside the Grand Finals).
I have nothing personal about Daryl Powell and was pleased when he was appointed, but it hasn't worked. The attitudes a coach should be instilling in the players (team-working, confidence, effort) are just not there. It may not be Daryl Powell's fault - I don't know. But I do think we need a change now.
I would bring in Tony Smith before the Toulouse match - perhaps even retaining Powell. We need something.

| I think i would be tempted to try Ratch at loose forward in this game so he can be either be a ball handler or the team can benefit from him running onto it & finding gaps, he is too restricted at stand off .....or move him back to full back & put Thewlis on the right wing outside Wrench.

Why does EVERYONE try and shoehorn ratchford in to the team anywhere? He is a terrible stand off and a major reason for our limp attack. I realise that we need a goalkicker(although, we'd need to start scoring tries first!), but if Dean plays then that is sorted.

Moe I've been a big Ratchford fan and in his prime loved his link play and running style.
However, last night was probably the first time that I thought he's not a first choice 13 player and definitely not as a half. Our ills aren't just down to him but our attack seemed to stutter with ball in his hand whether that's his pace or lack of understanding of those outside him or decent defending closing us down
Great utility value and cover but I agree Dean at HB

There as been a fair few posts on here now regarding Ratchford being past his best, like you in the early years he was exactly what we needed. BUT given he is now no longer that player I’m wondering what Powell/Club see that we don’t That as warranted a 2 year extension

I don't want him to be starting half next season, the pack will be. Etter so shorter kicks mean less chasing needed BUT that can still apply if you finish your set on halfway. Don't kick to the corner with a slow chase kick to the 20 and compete in the air for the ball. Our halves aren't natural so it's far too predictable.
Ratchford would be on the bench every match for me though, he can cover a lot of positions well.

| I believe Ratchford is pretty good at talking himself out of being dropped, another Powell weakness.

Obviously, Ratch must be a good apple with a good shelf life but ,as you say, stand off isn't working for him.

| Been massive Steph fan, but not just last night but all season the attack stops when it comes to him, he’s just lost it all of a sudden, it happens, hate to say it but bad signing for me.

He should be playing fullback, a safe pair of hands, not at halfback. The young guys need someone to guide them, they are exciting and fast but they have no leader.

All you need is a dozen of the Wire faithful in the dressing room telling the players how it is, no coach will give you that team talk.

| Salford fan here in peace.
The reason we are scoring points is the half backs (Sneyd and Croft) are rarely caught in possession.
Ratchford on the other hand - when played in the middle - @6 or @13 - is just the opposite.
Widdop is the man badly missed or a young linking half then Wire will flow better.
Even if Wires flop v Toulouse surely they will still be safe as Points difference far better and cannot see where TO will pick up further wins.

So what do we do....sign another fullback...
The whole team needs a leader.

| Agree with the leadership thing. When Wigan scored their first last night, Holmes (who missed the tackle on French) who had chased down in the corner got up head in hands and looked at the fans, almost to sense the reaction.
A good leader would have got him under the wing and had a chat with him, instead he was left to shake his head at himself and to dwell on it.

I'm expecting a 42-43 result based on both sides staying power and defence, but I'm unsure as to who.

At least that sounds like a decent game. Far better than 4-0 with two goals and no tries.
Unless of course you mean 21 penalty goals each with a winning drop goal? The poor guy who brings on the kicking tee!

| On the leadership thing, this has been a steady decline since around 2013/14 when we had an exodus of senior players and leaders. Looking back now with hindsight at the end of the Tony Smith era, we had players like Kurt Gidley and Ashton Sims, who weren't everybody's cup of tea on here but they were at least trying to give some sense of direction and leadership to the rest. Through the Price era we became increasingly leaderless.
