Her indoors and myself went out for a meal in Anglesey last night, a fine restaurant called Tavern On The Bay at Red Wharf Bay. We sat down next to a couple, a fit looking chap about 70 years old and his wife and as usual my missus struck up a conversation with them...Eventually the conversation turned to rugby league and his wife said her husband used to play the game. I said to him, you look like a second rower. He said either that or loose forward. I asked if he played the game professionally...Aye he said, Swinton, Wigan and Great Britain. I still didn't recognise him, I remembered all his team mates with Swinton, Fleet, Buckley, Gowers, Parkinson, Cartwright, Stopford, Norburn and the rest. I thought, sod it, I'll ask him who he is. Dave Robinson he replied. His missus chipped in, he was one of Wigan's back three, Ashurst, Lyon and Dave. Oh yes I remember now I lied. We had a really good chinwag, about the state of the game today and how Swinton went downhill after they sold Station Road...He agreed and told me that was the reason he signed for Wigan. His missus showed me a photo of himself, Alan Buckley and John Stopford boarding the plane enroute for Australia. For the life of me I can't remember him, perhaps one of you old timers can jog my memory.

He must of signed for Wigan way before Swinton sold Station Road, otherwise I may have remembered him. Also, those names, I can only remember Ashurst (Bill)?

It may be worthwhile posting this on the Wigan forum, Rogues probably knows him.

He was a very good Loose Forward and Rogues will certainly remember him. Probably had his best years at Swinton playing wise.
