I popped along to Vicky Park last night and was among a big crowd watching the U16's play Saints. Gary Chambers has certainly got a very well drilled group of senior players together. The tackling was good, defence in the first half was well marshalled and the team were well disciplined. Even more impressive was the backline that moved the ball around with crisp passing and incisive running. I suspect we might see 7 or 8 of this group in the U19's next year.

From the players on display and just IMO; Eribe Doro at prop looked a bit of a prospect. He is not very tall but all muscle, and put in some crunching tackles. He virtually blocked the central channel on his own. He also took an opportunistic opening try and made good yardage with his runs. Ball retention was a bit sloppy though. Liam Brinksman at centre produced some very good runs and picked up a couple of first half tries whilst Jack Wright (LF) also got on the score sheet and looked very good in all departments. Henry Collins was pacey on the wing and Callum Turner at FB joined the attacking line to punch holes in the defence. By half time they had racked up a score of 28-4 with only the goal kicking a minor blot on the performance. The second half was less impressive, possibly due to complacency and / or the disruption of the 7 subs that were introduced. A slew of mistakes, poor discipline and what seemed like a move away from the game plan, allowed Saints to come back into the game and it was left to Riley Dean (SO) to step through the Saints defence 5 minutes from time and put the game beyond them at 38-28.

How did Lewis Dodds go for Saints? He is 1st year (U15) and probably came on from the subs bench and very highly rated. Normally a #6 or #7.

I think it's Dodd rather than Dodds, and he was on from the start. He played a good game and was influential, linking well with the backs. I think he got one score from memory. Jack Welsby had a good game although his kick offs left a bit to be desired - a bit like our conversions.

Apologies it is Dodd, very good young player, along with Umyla Hanley they were probably the two outstanding players in that age group.

Welsby played at full back for saints. Been saying that is his position for ages. The Warrington prop and the pacy centre were the standouts for me.

Some good players in that England under 16 group from the sounds of it, if anyone gets the chance then check out Tom Holroyd a prop at Leeds. he is absolutely killing it.
