Warrington Sports Holdings consolidated group accounts for the year to the end of November 2010 have been posted at companies house.

Initial review would seem quite positive with turnover up by nearly 5% to over £6m and profit up from £21k in 2009 to £197k in 2010.

Worth noting that for the first time the accounts acknowledge that the club, in conjunction with the RFL, are involved in ongoing discussions with HM Revenue and Customs relating to image rights payments to certain players in previous years.

Wonder if the image rights thing will come back to bite us?

It will be a standard note that will be appearing in all such sports companies accounts as they are in an area where there is a known dispute with HMRC. Its almost like the notes that appeared in standard company accounts a couple of years ago that said "due to the current economic client there is an uncertainty over the going concern". Basically it menas sod-all but at leat the club can turn round and say "well we told you so" if anything were to happen.

Is it definitely previous years? It would possibly explain the comparative ease with which Warrington keep their young players, sign other club's star young players and also NRL marquee players whilst the other relatively wealthy clubs struggle to construct a proper squad.

Do you really think there is much of an overall salary difference there?

Saddened referred to "other relatively wealthy clubs" so I'm not sure why you are comparing against Saints.

Although to be fair it does raise the question of how Saints are under the cap?

Noooo, just bent the rules a little like most super league clubs were doing at the time. Believe Leeds have a test case ongoing at the moment.

Did they bend the rules? I thought it was some stupid retrospective law that will shaft a few clubs?

I would have thought the extension, if it shows on next years accounts, would guarantee a loss anyway.

You've got to speculate to accumulate.

Wigan summary for 2010
Accounts for the last financial year (ending Nov 2010 - i.e. the 2010 season) has recently been filed by the club with Companies House.

Main highlights:

- Operating profit of £141k against an operating loss of £459k from 2009

- Turnover up 15% to £5.5m against £4.8m the previous year

- Stadium rental costs of £197k against £190k the previous year. Notes to the accounts confirm that "rates determined by match revenues" and we have a "25 year renewable lease"

- The £2m loan that was assumed to be owed to Whelan was paid on 3 December.

- Net debt position reduced from £1.63m to £1.29m

Overall some very encouraging results and will probably only get better this year.

25 year lease? Renewable when? I automatically assumed the lease would be a 99 years term.

£2 million loan 'paid'? That wouldn't correlate with the accounts, so I assume it has been written-off/substituted by a current Director's loan to remove it from the accounts.

Wouldn't imagine they would be paying for it outright from profits. Could get a loan from a bank amortising over a number of years, director's loan, issue more shares etc.
