Who decides man of the match? Is it sponsors or the club officials?

The reason i ask is do the folk who decide it actually watch the game? Briers was awful yesterday (back to his old inconsistent days!) and yet he got MOM!

It's usually the sponsors. I know at Knowsley Road they used to give it to whoever scored the most tries or whoever out of Long, Sculthorpe and Cunningham scored, basically because they were the only ones the sponsors had heard of.

It can become a farce sometimes, based on who the sponsors want to spend time with post match.

Alfie Langer won it most weeks (whether he was playing or not) !

Warrington Town Fc were the Executive sponsors and I am ashamed (and to be fair to Lee he was embarrassed to receive the award) to be the guilty party (along with my co-directors).
There were other reasons why the club wanted Lee to be with us after the game - and to be fair it was pretty difficult to pick anyone from such a disappointing team performance.
Over all Benny Westwood probably deserved it the most - but like I have said there were other reasons why we wanted Lee to join us upstairs with Roger Hunt, England World Cup winner and ex Warrington town player and Ex Wales and Man Utd star Mickey Thomas and other club representatives and sponsors.
I can assure you Lee let it be known he was not deserving of the award.
Sorry if this has caused any offence and hopefully the above explanation helps resolve the mystery.
When we sponsor a game in the future we will ensure the decision is the right one

During our dark days under Cullen, I always thought man of the match was decided by Lee Briers sponsor, or it was written into Briers contract.
Please sponsors, can you ensure that the award is given on merit to avoid the jeers that often greet this award.

I always thought it was drawn out of a hat because the decisions can seen entirely random at times.

Whats wrong with a simple invitation to Mr Briers to join you and the sponsors in the bar? I reckon he must be used to it, almost part of the job for a long standing pro like him.

Picking him as MOM so he is obliged to join you insults the 'real' MOM and 10000 fans intelligence
